tl;dr: we have a bias for remembering things during certain period of our lives between 10 and 30, during that time how much music has effected us and when tends to remain a favorite of ours as we get older. With a cascading generational bias towards what our parents listened to as well.
I'd also like to add that it's like reading books or riding a bike: it's a skill you have to consistently exercise to be able to take on more.
