Nice that's the first time I've upgraded my system using pkgbase and it's gone from FreeBSD 15.1-RELEASE-p1 to FreeBSD 15.1-RELEASE-p2 without issue. Oh and why yes I'm still using CoW ( Wayland and behaves like fvwm by @thomasadam@bsd.network ) as my Window manager and loving it's many many configurations. This could take me a wee while to get just how I'd like but definitely loving that retro vibe! #FreeBSD #Wayland #CoW #pkgbase

That's Beastie upgraded from #FreeBSD 15.1-RELEASE-p1 to FreeBSD 15.1-RELEASE-p2 without issue. Although I did come a cropper on my 8 Bastille jails. I had to change the securelevel to allow it to complete the command doas bastille pkg ALL upgrade but all is good and they are running FreeBSD 15.1-RELEASE-p2 now too.

Decided I've nothing better to do than to wipe the nvme drive on my Dell Optiplex 3080 Tower and download / install the latest #OpenBSD snapshot img file to see if it now upgrades fine after the issues I had when it suddenly refused to upgrade past the 13th May snapshot but would downgrade without issue to any other date. Fingers crossed it works now as it's only an i5.

Would you believe it ? I've only just finished my ECDIS course at Raymarine and Loganair have already messaged me to say that my scheduled 08:30 flight to Edinburgh tomorrow morning has been delayed and estimated departure is now 10:10 . Can they not run any flights on time !? ๐

OK then I'm away to possibly break my #FreeBSD 15.1 install on my #ThinkPad by going all modern and pkgbasify it. Wish me luck! ๐ :runbsd: :freebsd: https://github.com/FreeBSDFoundation/pkgbasify

So yesterday I got my wife Julie to install #DeltaChat so I could test out voice notes, Video calling and so on, Thinking that she'd probably not use it again. Well today to my surprise she sends me a voice not to say that she's going to be late home this morning from her work. I'm very impressed as I didn't expect her to use it again, So that's progress. ๐

Think I'm going to try and persuade Julie my wife to install #DeltaChat and see how she gets on. Also I want to try out voice and video calls privately first before getting adventurous. Baby steps. ๐

Just thought I'd reinstall #OpenBSD 7.9 again and then switch to the latest snapshot to see if my not being able too boot /bsd past the 14th May snapshot and it now fails to verify the downloaded stuff ๐ Good thing I've still my trusty #FreeBSD laptop. Even more random redoing the sysupgrade -s and it passes straight away and upgrades. Does it boot the /bsd ? No it does not only boot.rd and boot.sp boot.

No computer tinkering this weekend for me as I'm babysitting three of my grandchildren at their house in Peterhead. On the plus side they wanted MacDonald's last night and MacDonald's messed the order up as I discovered once it arrived. So I complained and they gave us another complete order too. The kids were well chuffed and stuffed. ๐คฃ

[ Update ] Changing the mirror to Oxford resolved this issue but on upgrading to todays 17th May took me back to the last issue where /bsd will not boot error 255. So I rolled back to the last known working snapshot of 14th May and everything works again /bsd boots perfectly. Also re the installer issue, I wasn't the only person to suffer see below link. https://marc.info/?l=openbsd-bugs&m=177900949688752&w=2 So today on #OpenBSD snapshot dramas. OpenBSD update issues I've had are resolved! Thank you to everyone who gave me things to try to resolve my #OpenBSD Dell Optiplex 3080 i5 not wanting to boot /bsd but would only boot /bsd.sp and bsd.rd I tried everything from booting bsd.rd and upgrading to using doas sysupgrade -s but each upgrade failed the same. I even deleted /bsd so it remade it after an upgrade but still the same. Finally after thinking the next step was to do a fresh install I decided to try rolling back the snapsho...

[ Solved sort of ] I just installed the previous version of py311-bcrypt version 4.3.0 and I was able to restart radicale again. [ SOLVED ] I don't need it at all as it was just for lf the file manager for opening images in imv. I just removed the proceeding setsid from the offending lines and all is good. I'm needing some help from my #OpenBSD family. I used to have a package setsid installed with FreeBSD but cannot find it on OpenBSD, Does anyone have any ideas ? https://cgit.freebsd.org/ports/tree/sysutils/setsid

Started adding my updated dots for running #MangoWM ( #Wayland ) on #OpenBSD . It's still quite messy ATM as it's a WIP but I'm getting there. It's so amazing being able to run Mango on OpenBSD ! โค๏ธ :openbsd: https://git.smithies.me.uk/openbsd-desktop-dotfiles/

I'm not sure who knows or not and quite frankly don't care but way back in 2007 I came out to my family as trans. My immediate family IE my wife and children all took it very well and we stayed together as we were still in love each other and still are very much so today. Unfortunately my mother and her husband and my Dad and his Wife ( Yeah they got divorced when I was about 5 or 6 ) did not and cast me out from the family. Things like finding out that my mothers side Nan and grandad pa...

Argh! I'm currently nursing my #Fairphone 4 with #IodeOS 6 on it right now, But I'm left wondering aka fighting internally as my brain is a right pain in the proverbial as to whether I keep the FP4 and upgrade IodeOS or purchase a FP5 and put #PostmarketOS on it. Or even maybe purchase a Pixel 9 pro and go #GrapheneOS ??? Either way I'm going to have to keep a device for UK banking apps be it an old mobile or a tablet. But what to do ? [ RESOLVED ] Any clever folk out there fancy helping me out by making me a 32x32 png ( No background ) mono image of the #Fediverse logo using the same colour as this image on my website ? The reason is I'm going to update the footer on my site to point to my new #snac instance which is not Mastodon. So I thought the fediverse logo in the same style would be perfect. I cannot remember how I came about the other images in the same colour ? Searching about I cannot find similar matches. The...

So I've been running my own #Snac instance for the past week and I have to say that I'm actually loving it. It hardly takes up any resources and the inbuilt web interface is easily configurable with nothing more than #CSS . There are some things that folk used to running #Mastodon might not like. For example it does not show any follower or following numbers to any instances. So people using Mastodon will see 0 followers and 0 following even though those Snac uses may have 100's of f...

Updated my blogs footer so the icons are no longer pushed out of line on a mobile view. I also changed the text from Mastodon to Fediverse and swapped out the Mastodon logo for the Fediverse logo which was kindly created for me by @Tionisla@bsd.cafe No I've to decide if I'm going to go full time with #Snac instead of #Mastodon ? ๐ค
