You can't skip the hard work & anyone who says so – politician or otherwise – is not to be trusted

  A bunch of years ago, when I was working in startups, my team built a back end dashboard to see what users/customers were doing... We weren't trying to run ads, sell information to data brokers, etc. we just wanted to see what was working/not working – at the time, no one said "this is surveillance" but that's what it was, even though it wasn't what we started with. 🧵

  More and more people are solving actual problems... Even worse, in many cases they're working together to make life better for the people around them by connecting, building trust, etc. This is devastating for those in the Explaining Bad Things Business because when people go off and solve problems, it's much harder to consistently feed followers bad news Moms organizing the group chat so no kids go hungry at their school need to stop it 1/2
