@Saposcat@mastodon.social Thank you! That’s exactly what I thought. I think it will be a bit of work to get it all highlighted, but that work could pay off in the form of not needing a developmental editing (or maybe needing less).

@Harlander Wow, congrats on that hefty compliment! It’s brutally hard to self-edit for many writers, and I’m about to see if I’ll be any good at it myself (I may decide to get editorial help if it makes sense). This is encouraging.

@theexplorographer Wow, these photos are so neat. I’m not a professional photographer, but it reminds me a bit of when I took a DSLR to photograph a hoarding property with decaying cars and outbuildings all over the place. There’s something eerie and beautiful about it, like you’re watching nature reclaim its old self.

@Saposcat@mastodon.social I’m trying to keep myself on task as well, but I’m also excited to experiment and see what happens.

@davewalker Oh, thank you! I was wondering why my site failed to become verified when I used the code. Now, I see I’ve not done it properly. I’m going to fix that today. 🎉

@Saposcat@mastodon.social I also edit as I go, especially the obvious stuff like misspellings or turns of phrase I don't like on second glance. The novel I'm writing now is part of an MFA program thesis. We were required to write the rough draft over two thesis courses and then edit the manuscript during the third and final course. I had a series of unfortunately timed emergencies in course two, so I have a lot of filling in to do, and I think the highlighting method might help s...

@jimmerthatisall This is absolutely every creeper's take on the Twitter dating scene. 😂

@Saposcat@mastodon.social I've loved it, and I think it's highly underrated. I chose it specifically because I thought the courses offered and overall perspective would benefit the skills and experience I'd had to begin with. If you're looking into MFAs, I would suggest looking into curricula to see which program will truly serve you and your goals. Ex: I chose a school with business offerings so I could make writing or editing profitable in some way. Some may nee...

@Saposcat@mastodon.social There's a lot you can learn about writing by interacting with other writers, reading blogs, or joining writing groups. Some people pay for workshops as well, which is considerably cheaper than college. A master's degree was a bucket list item for me. I'll be the first in my family, and I love what I've learned. I also don't believe in "too late" or "too old".

@Saposcat@mastodon.social It can take a bit of time to find a writing group you like. What do you write?

@Saposcat@mastodon.social Thank you! I'm very excited about the last course so I will have earned it. I only have the final thesis class left.

@Saposcat@mastodon.social That's awesome! I'm writing a fantasy right now, too. I chose it because of the challenge involved in worldbuilding. You can use the #fantasy tag to find writers of that genre here. Plus, as I exit grad school and reclaim a bunch of time, I plan to use my blog to share writing tips, and I will work on finding a group of writers to work with. Sometimes, you can find them locally and meet up with them in coffee shops or elsewhere. I'm also happy to...

@Saposcat@mastodon.social I could see how that would happen. It probably helps jog creativity quite a bit.

@Saposcat@mastodon.social I think every writer is inspired by nature in the areas they’ve lived, and my writing is no exception. Many of the environmental details mirror the area where I live but not all of them. I started from scratch with the world itself. Some aspects are based on different cultures through history, but I tried my best to mix them up so I wasn’t using a single culture as a model for any of the groups of people in my story.

@Saposcat@mastodon.social Sorry for the delay. I sometimes spend a few days off of social media to get stuff done. My story is about a woman who was orphaned at birth outside a village suffering a lengthy food shortage. She was adopted by a caring woman, but the rest of the village despised her and made her its lowest-class citizen (she’s treated very poorly by most of the village). She also possesses magical power, but magic is outlawed, so she has to hide it. What’s your story about?

@tetisheri I’m so sorry to hear that’s the case for you. Sometimes, I feel the same way about my limitations, though I don’t have as many. When you throw in a high achieving mindset, that makes for a big emotional struggle sometimes. Other times, I’m able to be quite transparent about them. I’m learning. I’m glad you’ve found work that fits into the flow you need for your life. So many people struggle with that.
