I have to give it up to 4 years ago me. If I thought that there was any remote chance of a tool or item that could be helpful when I got my arcade machine, I bought it. And I'm rediscovering this as I'm going through it and finding all sorts of things I bought and never used. Huge spools of 22 gauge wire, soldering station, rolls of electrical tape, molex connectors out the ass. I have half an electronics store over here. #arcade #retrogaming

This weekend is going to be devoted to fixing up some stuff in the arcade machine. Molex crimping tool, a Noctua fan to replace the one in the machine that has a broken fin so it makes a slight bit less noise, redoing the control panel wiring, redoing the coin mech wiring, cable management. Essentially, I'm redoing most of the amateurish work I've done in the machine years ago when I didn't know what I was doing. Also, downloaded about 80 or so games from Steam that I need to add to...

Spent some time working on my arcade machine over the weekend and during that time, I came to realize just how much information about various emulator frontends and such have been lost. Attract Mode's forums are gone and a few other places just... don't exist anymore. All that's left is Google's AI overview getting every last detail wrong, which is... just extra infuriating. (I use attract mode because of the NESiCAXLive theme that is on there is the only one that is remotely clo...

Don't be surprised if you see some service outages right now. Amazon AWS West-2 in Oregon is apparently down/impacted which is causing Blizzard's BattleNet and Sony's PSN outages. https://health.aws.amazon.com/health/status

Sleepy. Why? Because my dogs decided that 4am last night was the perfect time to host their revival of Riverdance on my stomach.

This guy made a realtime filter that updates his face in game to show damage just like Doomguy's does in the Doom status bar. Incredible. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxp--ULDIm8 #retrogaming #doom #snes #nintendo

Nothing better to calm you down than seeing a game you worked on getting released to really great reviews.

I'm getting annoyed with how long it takes to get my NixOS pull requests looked at, never mind merged. Fuck it. FreeBSD, let's see how things are going over there.

@ferret It's okay to say something isn't for you. The documentation and community are awesome, it is very pro-user and excellent for making their system purely their own but there's a admittedly big skill barrier to get there and if you need AI to get anywhere with it, it's not going to be for you - and that's okay. NixOS isn't trying to be everyone's daily driver. It knows its target audience and is going for it alone. No need to write blocks and blocks of code to s...

Overwatch competitive drives progress so far: 2 wins, 2 losses. Every single game, win or loss, has been exceptionally tight. Hard to complain about the matchmaking I've had to this point. I know it's going to be garbage any moment now though. #overwatch

That Final Fantasy Resonance game looked kind of neat but uh... otherwise, I rate the Direct a sold "oof" out of 10.

It took a while but my first contribution to #NixOS is in. Weeeeee. :D Expect more libretro cores and other emulation bits I need for my arcade machine to come into NixOS from me in the future.

@Edent@mastodon.social I'm assuming you're probably using NixOS closer to the original standard - using stable channel and without using flakes - as far as I am aware, unless you are explicitly telling NixOS to update, it shouldn't pull package updates on its own and running niixos-rebuild switch should just build based on what you have, unless you added a change that requires something new to be downloaded. So avoid running 'nix-channel --update' and avoid running nixos-rebu...

I thought the hard part about contributing to #NixOS was getting everything building and up to their standards. After seeing there's 12 thousand open pull requests, I now see the real boss is getting your change even reviewed, nevermind actually pulled.

I love when I come across YouTube videos coming from people advertising themselves as a "Linux expert" and then you hear "well, I've been daily driving Linux for 3 years". You dumb sweet summer child, you. #linux #opensource

TFW you change your Patreon name to meme on a wrestling podcast you follow like everyone else does and you forget that you also are a patron of a lot of retrogaming stuff, so suddenly you start seeing people asking "who the fuck is Dick 'The Cock' Johnson" in various Discords. My bad.

@krutonium@social.treehouse.systems By any chance are you using the Zen Browser flake: https://github.com/0xc000022070/zen-browser-flake I've been told before that the evaluation warnings you are seeing are caused by that flake. I have them myself as well and I use that zen browser flake.

@adingbatponder@fosstodon.org Why would you give each machine its own branch? Seems like making a lot more trouble for yourself than needed.

Time to convert my arcade machine over to NixOS. Does this make sense considering I have a working CachyOS setup on it already? No, but something making sense has never stopped me before. Though it will never stop feeling odd firing up Visual Studio to update my NixOS setup to handle new hosts. #linux #arcade #nixos #opensource

Fellow gamedevs, please make sure that everything that you receive as input from your players is sanitized and none of it is directly passed to... say, a mysql database. Accidentally bumped into a game that can easily be exploited by changing your Steam name to cause all sorts of havoc. #gamedev

@dee@social.treehouse.systems I don't think it's all or nothing but once you start using them and understanding them, you'll wonder why such a vital part of the nixos ecosystem is still behind an experimental features flag. It's a game changer for the positive.
