Personal recommendations on the #InternetNZ Motions… ✅ Motion 1 is a sensible minor adjustment to be more flexible with terms on the Board. Sometimes the person you need is only available for two years, or the last person who knows how something works is available to stay for another year while new people get up to speed. ❌ Motions 2-5 are malicious. They're from the right-wing FSU. At one level they burden the organisation with a bunch of bureaucratic reporting rules that will allow well-...

If women’s clothing had pockets, I estimate that I would be approximately 5% more economically productive, due to the extra time that I currently devote to helping search for misplaced phones, earphones, keys, and purses.

@jardo@townwizard.net Yeah, I'm not attending an meetups at the moment. Partly because I'm doing less coding, but also because the opportunity to see good friends is slightly outweighed by the higher chance of sitting through another vibe coding demo.

One of my children’s primary school class is spending this term studying “Reality”. Are dreams real? Can our senses fool us? When you make a copy of a thing is it still the same thing? Culminating in an "in depth film study of The Truman Show”. I look forward to him getting more of my dad jokes.

I'm going to have to listen to bad Donald Trump impressions for the rest of my life, aren't I? Long after he's dead, thoughtless people who barely remember who he was, still ruining perfectly good conversations by doing the stupid joyless voice, heedless of the pain they're causing. But if I tell them to fuck off, they'll say I'm the one who's being unreasonable.

I see that a SaaS product I use regularly has started using genAI for global search. I can tell because when I type in the exact name of a document I know exists, it no longer shows that document anywhere on its list of responses. When I type “incident response manual”, I'm not looking for the Customer Service Manual or the Risk Management Manual. I wrote all these manuals, so I'm pretty certain of this.

From a distance, it seems like a Clacton by-election is a huge opportunity for the UK Green Party. Yes, it's a stupid stunt by Farage to distract from his corruption, but it's happening. Labour and the Lib Dems have already bowed out, so the Greens will have the only viable anti-Farage candidate. Worst case scenario is that Farage wins and the Greens were the only party who stood up to him. The Green candidate will be a local, and it's a running joke that Farage doesn't care abo...

I reckon the best possible outcome for the football World Cup would be if the USA makes it to the semifinals and loses to Mexico. Then the final is Mexico versus Iran, and it's played in a stadium in the United States and Donald Trump has to watch. Then I reckon it's best if Mexico wins, because it's even more embarrassing for Trump than if Iran wins.

I feel that journalists should have a deeply-engrained understanding that right-wing politicians will always lie about marginal tax rates. This happens consistently. Every time someone proposes to raise the tax rate over a certain threshold a right-wing politician will pretend that this means that all income under the threshold will also be taxed at the same rate. If you don't ridicule them for being incompetent, they’ll keep doing it. I mean, if you do ridicule them, the most you can expe...

Has anyone I know used Zitadel for single-sign-on to web applications? I'm especially interested in: 1. how it compares with Authentik, and 2. how well documented it is for specific web applications (as opposed to general principles).

> Can you state your own position in plain words you built yourself, right now, without any of the movement's stock phrases? Let's see… Humans are physical creatures who live on a real planet. We depend on complex living systems for our survival. We are also social animals who can only thrive when we look after each other. Any politics that doesn't stay grounded in these two facts will eventually cause harm. https://www.joanwestenberg.com/be-thou-not-pilled/ #TakeTheTest
