I reckon the best possible outcome for the football World Cup would be if the USA makes it to the semifinals and loses to Mexico. Then the final is Mexico versus Iran, and it's played in a stadium in the United States and Donald Trump has to watch. Then I reckon it's best if Mexico wins, because it's even more embarrassing for Trump than if Iran wins.

My children have informed me that Iran has not advanced from the group stage, so this scenario is no longer possible. If I'm reading the bracket correctly, I don't think it's possible for Mexico to play the USA unless the USA makes it to the final, which is too much success and would allow Trump to come up with some kind of stupid narrative about a biased ref or suchlike. So I think the next best option is for the USA to be knocked out by Belgium, and then watch as Mexico defeats France in the final. Not as satisfying, but so long as Mexico wins.
