I can offer only a technical alternative to a problem that is not a technical problem. At a fundamental level it’s hard not to feel that however I may protest or offer an alternative, I’m recruited against my will. The kind of economic change we need is just so fundamental.

  Something interesting I learned about donkeys yesterday: it’s very hard to get a hypodermic needle in their neck. As a vet you have exactly one chance. This is because donkeys have mobile veins! They can retract their jugular vein behind a very thick, tough sheath. They can even temporarily shut down cutaneous blood flow. This is a capability most mammals don’t have! It makes donkeys highly resistant to attacks by predators and gives them special ability to function at high elevations.

  Australia is introducing free daytime power in July. They’ve installed so much #solar that the challenge is to use it effectively. People who can shift their electricity usage to the day (think retirees or people that work from home) can save a lot even if they don’t have solar.   My mother, the last member of my family aside from me, is in very serious condition and also in deep, practiced denial about it. She refuses any kind of medical care for religious reasons that I do not share, putting me in a very difficult spot as her medical power of attorney. Everything is extraordinarily fucked up in ways I won’t even try to explain. I may not be sharing much of anything here during this time.

  Starting year 3 with no income now. We’ve basically decided not to sell the farm. We just can’t bring ourselves to do it. Instead we’re starting to liquidate retirement accounts. Here’s to being stupid! 🍻 At least there will be donkeys to share here. Anyway, posting because I’ll be doing a demo of my still-half-baked (but cool) non-AI-that-works-like-AI thing today for a large residential solar company that truly needs it. Wish me luck. We could use a whole year of luck in 2026 ha ha ha! Yeah.

I don’t even want this company to be what people think of when they hear the word “company.” If I’m honest with myself, starting this venture was not so much an exercise in “entrepreneurship” for me as it was a “going on strike.” But that is hard to do for 2 1/2 years.
