Something interesting I learned about donkeys yesterday: it’s very hard to get a hypodermic needle in their neck. As a vet you have exactly one chance. This is because donkeys have mobile veins! They can retract their jugular vein behind a very thick, tough sheath. They can even temporarily shut down cutaneous blood flow. This is a capability most mammals don’t have! It makes donkeys highly resistant to attacks by predators and gives them special ability to function at high elevations.
