Happy to announce v3.0.0 of my build-and-inspect-python-package GitHub Action that does what the name says. If u maintain a Python pkg u should really give it a look! Much, much fewer broken pkgs have been pushed to PyPI & who doesn't love automatic trove classifier → GHA test matrix conversion‽ This release brings you Twine 7 & with that packaging metadata 2.5 & PEP 794 (Import Name Metadata) – also a new release procedure: no more trailing v3 tags – only full versions https:/...

It was to be expected, but I need to stress how much #EuroPython benefitted from being the host of the CPython Core Summit this year. As I keep repeating, the main value of #PyConUS for the COMMUNITY is the gathering of stakeholders for in-person exchange. Given that I barely got any code written at the sprints (thanks, impromptu attrs sprinters, tho! ❤️) b/c I kept walking and talking and solving problems that otherwise take weeks to resolve, is a testament to how strong the attendance was.

Close followers might have noticed that I’ve been complaining about losing reach for text after the Twitterpocalypse, fewer speaking opportunities due to Unprecedented Times™ and their effect on conferences, and nobody “getting” svcs. While complaining about reality is fun, I’m also aware that adjustment is necessary for survival and I’ve decided to take on a project this fall: producing a YouTube video about svcs! It took MUCH longer than I thought but here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watc...

can’t fucking believe that “omg we’re down all the time b/c we're being ddosed by too much code 🥺”-github is fucking hosting a fucking meet and greet with the fucking dude who’s responsible for some of the worst offenses by enabling an legion of mac minis flooding the world with slop. guess github is now fully integrated into the org chart https://github.blog/open-source/register-now-for-openclaw-after-hours-github/

RE: https://fosstodon.org/@mwb/116476124401887839 it's happening huh I've kept silent for a long time b/c I hate throwing fellow maintainers under the bus, but the situation around httpx 1.0 (which is developed in private and has a focus on adding a SERVER!?) has become untenable for a project of such importance. I hope we as a community will find a way to navigate this situation gracefully ideally without 20 forks but with a reconciliatory ending. And yes, this is very much...

“begging stochastic systems to be good boys is not a security strategy” exhibit ♾️ What really grinds my gears is how a whole industry chose to forget the 101 of ops security. This is not an “AI" problem, this is gross negligence by cloud providers like Raleway pretending "having evals" is an acceptable defense against catastrophic data loss & users having production tokens of any kind lying around such that an attacker (or misguided agent) can find it. https:...

I fear we’re watching multiple generations to give up any kind of ambition to improve at whatever craft can be automated mediocrely by LLMs. Repeatedly pulling the prompt lever will never end in excellence. ESPECIALLY if the boosters are right, “prompting” is not a long-term valuable skill. LLMs _can_ be used as skill multipliers but it’s up to YOU whether you choose to use them as a leverage for your own capabilities or whether you deskill yourself into a helpless slop slinger.

I gotta admit that Passkeys have grown on me. I use them with 1Password & the integration even in Apple’s apps is great. Looks like the worst UX problems have been ironed out and pressing “Login using Passkey” is much nicer than pasting email codes or getting angry that OTP auto-fill doesn’t work. My main annoyance now is that many sites use it as 2FA and not as a primary login.

given the claude code leak i'm starting to suspect that when boosters say they don't look at the code it's an act of fear, not confidence
