Codeberg e.V. asking members to vote on various topics is such a breath of fresh air. At a time when commercial services seem to a) only make their services worse and b) put their own interests above those of their customers, Codeberg a) takes a stand on important topics such as vibe-coding and discrimination and b) asks members if they agree with the proposed changes before they are implemented. Feels almost too good to be true. Thank you @Codeberg for continuing to be a force for good. Muc...

After learning about Count Binface vs. Nigel Farage today, I find myself imaging a world where a satire candidate like Binface ends up accidentally triggering the downfall of the far right across the world. Impossible? Not at all. There is precedence for the UK. Meet H'Angus the Monkey who ran for mayor in the town of Hartlepool, England -- and ended up being re-elected not only once, but twice: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-tees-58912941 #ukpol #noafd #antifa

A #Japanese word that makes me smile each time I come across it, is 蛍光灯 (keikoutou). It means fluorescent lamp or light. Let's break this down into the individual characters: * 蛍: lightning bug, firefly * 光: ray, light * 灯: lamp, a light So, a fluorescent light is really a "lamp made of light by fireflies". So nice! But it gets even better. The word also has a humorous (albeit dated) meaning: When you use it to refer to a person, you indicate that they are a bit sl...

RE: https://ehlo.exim.org/@bernardq/116851178355484115 This is an excellent stance: "[Security] Reports we believe are LLM generated will either be rejected outright or if thought to be plausible will be credited to the unnamed and uncredited authors whose works were ingested as the training corpus." Yes, credit the people who did the actual work. I like this very much. #noai #exim #linux

RE: https://social.vivaldi.net/@brucelawson/116928765648580981 There is one area of human endeavour which I am confident will never be subjugated by the tech bros: playing an instrument. Not *trying* to play one or *dabbling* in playing, but actually mastering an instrument. Because the hard truth of is that it takes years to get there. And the path is painful in so many ways: Learning scales is incredibly boring, learning to play fast is mind-numbingly tedious. And then there are things li...

One of my favourite bands is finally coming to Munich, the Japanese #rock band #BAND-MAID. I admire their musicianship and how the five members form such a cohesive group. How they emanate pure joy when playing live. Go see for yourself with a live performance of "Dilly Dally" from their 2025 Japan tour: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTAQ5dCpuiM #jrock #music #munich
