A #Japanese word that makes me smile each time I come across it, is 蛍光灯 (keikoutou). It means fluorescent lamp or light. Let's break this down into the individual characters: * 蛍: lightning bug, firefly * 光: ray, light * 灯: lamp, a light So, a fluorescent light is really a "lamp made of light by fireflies". So nice! But it gets even better. The word also has a humorous (albeit dated) meaning: When you use it to refer to a person, you indicate that they are a bit slow on the uptake and may take a while to understand things. That's because fluorescent lamps indeed take a while until "the light comes on". 💡 #humour #language #learning #languages #polyglot
