I’m building a toolchain to get OpenSSH 10 running on CentOS 6 on a production box to fix backups, in case anyone is envying my July 4 festivities. #Sysadminnery

RE: https://mastodon.social/@knoppix95/116841089967533662 It’s a bit silly to expect privacy from your employer on an employer-issued and employer-managed device. Sure, it would be nice. However, very few employers have (or are able to build) the in-house capacity to administer the nuanced policy needed to secure employer data from leakage without infringing on user privacy. Keep work and personal devices and data separate.

Very reminiscent of my time in Big Corp IT. I got asked for a detailed weekly report on the performance of mail servers and spam filters issued weekly. It took me months to get the report form & content just right for the manager that requested it. He left. His replacement didn’t recognize my weekly report mail as something useful and rather than telling me to stop, he just kept marking it as spam. #Sysadminnery @aj@gts.sadauskas.id.au https://gts.sadauskas.id.au/@aj/statuses/01KVZBAX3H...

We have always exempted parents from being called mass shooters as long as they mostly kill their own kids. @bulwarkonline https://www.threads.com/@bulwarkonline/post/DXnT0zxjUyl

RE: https://mastodon.social/@RealJournalism/116445678206814050 “Biden was better than Bush” is damning with faint praise… Biden was better than Clinton. He got stuff passed that Obama never could. If Harris had won, we’d all appreciate Biden’s work more now, because Trump has focused on destroying that legacy specifically.

In 2026, knowingly deadnaming a trans person is an act of personal and political hostility, done by choice with malice. Standing up to someone who insists on deadnaming a *child* in a group of adults is an act of resistance & social courage. They’re *advertising* that they are a bully. They obviously don’t care about that child but they want other adults to know that they are a bully who will attack anyone, unprovoked. Calling them on their intentional, performative cruelty is important...

RE: https://c.im/@BBC/116285217557877430 This is just as evil as Russia taking the Crimea and Donbas. It’s the same thing. Something needs to end Bibi’s rule. Oh, and also change the minds of a whole lot of bloodthirsty Israelis

RE: https://mastodon.social/@arstechnica/116132930980342790 It’s gonna be so funny when it turns out that Alzheimer’s is a post-viral syndrome of Varicella (brain Shingles!) and we turn out to have cured it inadvertently in recent decades by developing the Chickenpox and Shingles vaccines. Herpesviruses are turning out to be a particularly nasty bunch. I just did a quickie review of their Wikipedia pages and we’re learning all sorts of ugliness. Looks like they *all* go latent in nerves and c...
