  @augieray I think tying it to votes, specifically, would be a poor idea. It opens up a bunch of fuckery potential. Example - riders. Take an unrelated bill, stuff “and this bill also provides $1 for FEMA”, suddenly any random bill could carry with out the threat of losing federal aid for storms. Example - absurd bills. If someone proposes the bill “20T to Florida for hurricane relief”, does this trigger for anyone who votes that down?

  @augieray Because in this case it’s not about what states do, it’s about what Senators vote for. States don’t control their senators/representatives, and votes are rarely for only one thing. Like, if this was in place, the Republican house could -today -pass a bill that said “ban abortion nationwide. Also fund FEMA.” What would you expect a Senator to do with that if they’re both pro-choice and pro-disaster-relief?

  @augieray the current government of the state of Georgia (republicans) absolutely hates their two senators (both democrats), for example. Can’t do anything about them, though!

  @augieray they do set rules. These particular proposed rules - tying funding to how senators vote - would be bad ones. “Tying funding to one thing is ok” doesn’t mean tying funding to a totally different thing is also ok.

  @EricCarroll thoughts and prayers :( My wife gave birth recently and mom and baby both had to stay in the hospital for a few days, I was there with them, and it felt like there was nothing we could do. Masking for literally days at a time felt untenable, we were tired and sleep deprived, we had to eat... just hoped that her room and the nicu had good ventilation but didn’t do anything...

  @dannyman the second-worst thing about that sentiment - after the fundamental evil of putting prices over human rights - is that Trump would be worse for the economy and prices too! It’s just so frustrating and baffling. White supremacy is a hell of a drug, I guess

  @HikerGeek @msbellows nah, the reason there are two parties is because of the way the electoral system is set up. If you have plurality-wins first-past-the-post you’ll always get two parties out of it.

  @tristansnell the public data indicates that trump is easily going to win Texas, BUT Colin Allred has a legit chance to overtake Ted Cruz, they’re within a percent or two. So based on public data this is more likely a play for the senate.
