Nice between the 72 written exams of #Electromagnetism I am correcting, there's the one of one student who gave it to me and added "but please prof leave it on sunlight for a couple of hours because i have mononucleosis and I just sneezed over it" ๐Ÿ™„ #academia

#paperday on #astroph: another chapter contribution to the Advancing Astrophysics with the SKAII big collection of papers trying to outline what the SKA may and should be doing in a few years ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿผ In this one I helped giving a sense of what might be detectable with a few different survey configurations for SKA-LOW and MID, on the scale of filaments of the cosmic web: https://arxiv.org/pdf/2606.31503 "The Large-Scale Structure of the Universe through the SKA lenses" by Cuciti...

#SimulatedUniverses a movie showing the development over time of injected cosmic ray electrons by three different mechanisms, color-coded in different ways: a) blue=cosmic rays from star formation b) red=from shocks c) green=from active galactic nuclei. In reality these relativistic particles are very hard to observe, and it's impossible to know their origin, but with simulations we can refine theoretical ideas. Today is a good day for me as #physics professor because I made a final experiment working in the class, a simple yet seminal one (by Michael Faraday, 1831!) which I so far replicated only in partial ways. It gave the theoretical basis for our modern technology, from power generators to the wifi transmission of power and signals (i.e. telecommunications). Let me show it 3 steps: 1. The #Faraday induction I usually show: a moving strong magnets induces a tiny tension in a secondary coil.

#paperday on #astroph "The Impact of the Magnetised Cosmic Web on Ultra High Energy Cosmic Ray Propagation" by Allegra Firinu, myself and Carmelo Evoli. We investigated the role of realistic extragalactic magnetic fields in deflecting E>1e18eV cosmic rays, effectively creating "an horizon" beyond which particles cannot reach us, as they are trapped by magnetic fields. https://arxiv.org/abs/2605.02324 #cosmoMAG #astrophysics #astronomy #physics

the joy of receiving applications to my post-doc which are visibly and 100% generated using #AI (which btw takes 2 second to notice, if you are expert, as for example it generated references to unexisting works of mine ). seriously, junior people in #academia hear me out: do not underestimate how dramatically bad this looks like, and wipes out even the smallest chance of you being retained as a backup candidate (in case the first ones will decline). ๐Ÿ˜ฉ #astronomy #astrophysics #science

Wish I would be religious, so that I could at least pray that trump won't commit anymore war crimes against civilian in #Iran in the upcoming hours, instead of just feeling so hopeless and impotent towards this nonsense, which ourselves and mostly our children will keep paying in the upcoming future. And who will suffer first are the innocents in #Iran who did nothing wrong against the US, and have already suffered more than enough the Islam theocracy and its many repressions.

Here is the "experiment" of today in the #Electromagnetism class: a tiny replica of the Leiden jar which is a far ancestor of the battery, consisting of a distribution of chargers trapped in in a glass container, which acts as a capacitor when the inner and outer conducting layers are reconnected again. I used a voltmeter to detect the tiny residual voltage (0.4mV) produced across the bottle after the charging process. #science #physics
