the joy of receiving applications to my post-doc which are visibly and 100% generated using #AI (which btw takes 2 second to notice, if you are expert, as for example it generated references to unexisting works of mine ). seriously, junior people in #academia hear me out: do not underestimate how dramatically bad this looks like, and wipes out even the smallest chance of you being retained as a backup candidate (in case the first ones will decline). ๐Ÿ˜ฉ #astronomy #astrophysics #science

  • I can barely understand this if you need to apply to everywhere and everything because you need a job, and this is very human and understandable; however I cannot imagine this to work as in the classical "nigerian princess" scam: real experts are going to look into the application, and if something it's just entirely, or very largely, generated with AI it just shows up in a second. And not matter what is in the rest of the application, or maybe even how good you may be.

@franco_vazza@mastodon.social I recently had a candidate for a bioinformatician job, who just finished his PhD, but not only was his motivation letter copy pasta from a chatbot but he had almost fifty papers published in his career (the last five years). Most of them in MDPI journals.
