  ugh. I'm having to go through THREE versions of Microsoft Office just to find the proper WordArt I want. Office 4.x doesn't have it, and neither does Office 95, although Office95 seems to know what WordArt is? (It's in the help, even if I can't seem to create it)

  wow xfinity's site is terrible. I'm trying to convince it to let me cancel my TV plan but keep my internet. I got through two chatbots and it gives me the option to schedule a callback. I hit that button and it says there's an error, and suggest I go look at support. like, support for their website? not working?

  I love when banks require you to do extra security/2fa on specific actions (like sending money), but they're the same 2fa you have to do to log in. so I enter my username/password, it sends an SMS to my phone, I enter the code, I click into "send money", select my landlord, type in the amount, click send, and it sends a code to my phone, I type it in again. the two texts came in 30 seconds apart. why are you re-authorizing me less than a minute later?

  look there's a billion other reasons why people are against AI and all but fundamentally the core of my person reason is that I've already spent 30 years learning how to teach computers how to do exactly what I tell them to, so I am exceptionally disinterested in having them do things less accurately by talking to them in a sloppier language

  arg. one of the international TLDs is 닷컴, which is Korean, pronounced "daskeom", a loanword from the english "dot com". so it means dot com. but it's a TLD. So it always comes after a dot! so it become example dot dot com!

  so it used to be that you could google "7 inches in cm" and google would just tell you the answer. this was nice. then they dropped that for AI. which is bad. but even once you'd done the obvious thing and blocked the AI, usually the first result would still be some kind of calculator site but those days are over. now when you google "7 inches in cm", the first result is a page which was generated off an LLM

  man when people were telling me that smart TVs are a privacy nightmare, I thought that was because they recorded what you watched using their built in media-player OS. NOPE! Apparently Roku TV's will give you popups based on what DVDs you're watching through them, because they screenshot the HDMI-in and compare it to a database. that's a few steps creepier than I was expecting from a garden variety privacy invasion
