For the record, I'm not really in the mood right now for another pandemic, maybe next year. ๐ #hantavirus

Found a truckload (20+) of Lenovo OneLink Pro laptop docks ๐ค These are obviously not the newest stuff and have been superseded by USB-C years ago, but maybe some school or hackspace is running a bunch of older ThinkPads and could use them? Any suggestions? Would give the whole lot away for shipping costs. #thinkpad #recycling #fediGive

Had a student come up to me after the lesson and ask a coding question which started with "My agent ran out of tokens, so I'm asking you ..." and I'm feeling vaguely inadequate as a teacher right now ๐ #academia #computerscience #education #ai

Congratulations, #Hungary! And thank you from the rest of the EU for getting rid of Putin's stooge. Although I'm a bit surprised that Orban conceded so quickly, I would have expected more shenanigans... let's see what the future brings ๐ค

I've recently been thinking about what hype cycles #HCI as a research area has already been through. I came up with these four, in roughly chronological order (obviously, this correlates with the timespan I've been working in HCI): - Tabletop Interfaces - Mixed Reality - Autonomous Cars - Large Language Models What was the "hot shit" before that? Or is it a more recent thing for everyone to run after one topic like a bunch of lemmings? ๐

I am - once again - pretty pissed right now by the journal reviewing process, having ultimately been dealt a rejection after going through major revisions. There seems to be an unspoken assumption among editors and reviewers that _any_ requested revision has to be followed to the letter, no matter if it makes any sense or not. Of course, we argued against this in the revision letter, but it doesn't look like anybody read it. ๐ Once again, one of the reasons I co-founded @jovi.

Just saw someone brag about getting a paper accepted after the 10th (TENTH!) resubmission. ๐คฏ What an incredible waste of resources. This paper has probably collected somewhere around 35 separate reviews, no doubt with a fair bit of opposing views and change requests. If there only was a venue which doesn't have to meet some arbitrary rejection rate and aims for continuity of reviews between revisions... ๐ค *cough* @jovi *cough* ๐

Anyone has a bit of experience with @DOAJ? We submitted @jovi for inclusion, but got a very speedy rejection because it's not publishing enough. I thought the requirement is that a journal needs to have published at least 5 peer-reviewed articles to be included, and JoVI ticks that box?

Hi everyone, I'm currently having an extremely hard time finding reviewers for a paper at @jovi which relates to visualization, simulation, and orbital dynamics. The review version is public at https://www.journalovi.org/2024-rein-rebound/ and the reviews will be public and (optionally) attributed as well. Please ping me if interested, and RT for reach! #academia #visualization #space #Astrodon

Apparently, there is one person who co-authored 37 papers for #chi2026 ๐ This is rather ridiculous, what sort of contribution per paper can you expect here? Probably time for a cap on how many papers you can be author on. /cc @sigchi https://chi2026.acm.org/2025/12/22/insights-into-submitting-authors-of-the-papers-track/

Hello #fediverse! Thanks to my new DFF grant, I'm now looking to hire a PhD student to join me at AAU in Aalborg ๐ฉ๐ฐ to work on "usable decentralization", i.e. on making distributed and federated cloud services accessible to the everyday user.
