If times are bad, you gotta see a doctor for transtemporal medicine.

In theory, microblogging should be one of the best ways to form meaningful connections online. It offers a lot of regular low-stakes interactions, it's bidirectional and a text can be composed quickly and easily. In practice, regardless of platform, it seems that most people are already at full capacity doomscrolling and arguing. #SocialMedia

I didn't expect that strong of an effect, but putting a thermal blanket in front of the sun-lit window has kept the bedroom cooler by probably 3 Β°C today.

I know it's diabolical to tease you like this, but new shoes are on the way. Right in time for the next WaZiFuBo on Wednesday. π

I'm living on the first floor with fly screens everywhere, so imagine my surprise when, for the first time ever, a big grasshopper showed up in our bedroom today. π

Given that most adults seem to lack even basic skills in self-awareness and emotional regulation, maybe we should start teaching those in school.

Stumbled across this blog post, realised it's becoming ten years old in a few months and then wondered what might have changed in the last decade. The (probably very unsurprising) answer: absolutely nothing. π https://www.raptitude.com/2016/12/five-things-you-notice-when-you-quit-the-news/

I've been regaining some cognitive tolerance lately, so I'm tipping my toes into "proper" gaming again. I did a bit of research which games might be suitable (not too much cognitive load or focus, still fun and engaging) and ended up with #ChronoTrigger. It might be the most praised SNES games that I have never played so far. Due to its production history, it also looks similar to a beloved classic of mine: #SecretOfMana. So far it's quite promising. :) #VideoGames #Gam...

It seems that for more than a hundred years, no one noticed that the Icelandic "translation" of Bram Stoker's Β»DraculaΒ« was basically fan fiction. π https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powers_of_Darkness_(Iceland) #TIL #Literature #Dracula

Similar to the last few installments, the twelfth wedding anniversary has to break with old traditions again. Usually, my wife and I would have made a big stroll or hike today and eaten some sushi afterwards. The one thing that survived is the dessert: homemade cake. This year, it's a carrot cake. :) #Food #Cake

Alright, the people's vote was unanimous, so it's time for my first Sunday Soup. But first: Based on my search results, the corresponding hashtag had been used briefly by @vicgrinberg & @jfparis (π) in 2024. So credit where credit is due. π This Sunday: beetroot soup. #Food #SundaySoup #Alltagsessen

Today I learned that Turkish grammatically differentiates between past events that you witnessed and those you just heard of or inferred. So "it rained in Berlin yesterday" (where I live) would be grammatically different from "it rained in Paris yesterday" if I just heard about it. #TIL #Turkish #languages

The plate was slightly too big for a beautiful arrangement π , but we tried plant-based "Wings" by The Green Mountain today. Accompanied by a quick self-made salad with self-made yoghurt dressing. Consistency and taste were pretty good. Nothing special and, as usual, comparably expensive, but a nice meal nonetheless. #Food #Alltagsessen

Sunday Soup: Mexican-inspired sweet-potato soup. This one includes soy granule(?) for a bit more chili-like texture while not really trying to be a chili. π Main ingredients: sweet potatoes, regular potatoes, carrots, green beans, mushrooms, corn, kidney beans, onions, garlic. #Food #SundaySoup #Alltagsessen #MealPrep

Scientists brought bacteriophages (viruses that attack bacteria) to the ISS to see how they behave in micro-gravity. At first, they had a harder time attacking the bacteria, but improved over time due to mutations. When brought back to earth, the "space viruses" were able to eliminate "terrestrial" E.-Coli bacteria that are usually very resistant to treatment. Promising. :) Yet another case of unforeseeable benefits of funding space research. https://www.sc...

RE: https://mstdn.games/@Sven/111885418357301724 Last year, I got notified about a renewed parking card being ready for pickup. Now it seems that he has stayed in a hotel over the weekend, as he a) got asked to rate his stay and b) enrolled in their loyalty program. π It's such a weird glimpse into someone else's life.
