  btw if you need to rip dvds fast, without transcoding, you can use my script [dvd2mkv](https://codeberg.org/ertai_blue/dvd2mkv) instead of using the proprietary Makemkv. I also wrote a quick script to restructure the directories created by dvd2mkv into the structure kodi demands, which I haven't posted yet. Ripping my entire dvd collection with it was a breeze, and it uses 100% libre software.

  I am becoming increasingly convinced with the idea that the freeriders in the tragedy of the commons is the capitalist industry. I would argue that real innovation comes from publicly funded research centers and volunteer work. Courageous development efforts like the CompCert C compiler for instance are unappealing to businesses because they are too long term and their outcome is too uncertain.   Google wants to lock down Android devices by banning apps not installed through the app store. Every app developper would have to pay Google and submit to ID verification. This is simply unacceptable. Google's proposed workaround for sideloading unverified apps requires 9 steps, a mandatory 24-hour waiting period, and is delivered through Google Play Services, not the Android OS. Google can modify or remove it at any time without user consent. It hasn't shipped in any beta. @keep...
