  I am more and more of the opinion that "emergent phenomena" is a crutch phrase devoid of real meaning. Emergent simply means a singularity in the prior, individual factor model has been passed, where the trends break down and no longer meaningfully predict anything. Ascribing more to it than that is to treat the unknown as supernatural rather than simply not yet well modeled.

  2600+ people without power here in #nashville My neighborhood in East Nashville is entirely dark. It's been awhile now. Enough so the UPS died awhile back, and I'm now getting concerned about conserving batteries on flashlights and phone. There was a gaggle of emergency vehicles at Trinity and Jones, but they moved on about an hour ago after doing something with a cherry-picker, with the streets blocked off by police.

  A wise woman I met 23 years ago once said to me: "Skin is important." I married her. Three years ago (minus ten days) she died on Easter Sunday, weeks after her 40th birthday. Hug those you love, and make love to those who you love in that way. Because skin is important.

  Pop, coke, highways, and going to the hospital are disappearing. AI narration seems to ignore these in favor of soda, freeways, and going to hospital. And this is now what we are learning from. Our language is going to become Applebees: the same everywhere, flat and riblets.

  [Random Thought] LLMs cause any singularity to move further into the future: they depend on human generated input data and a reliance on LLMs drops the quality of human created data for training both AI and humans. LLMs tend to flatten the slope of advancement over sufficient time.

To this day, the theme song (along with Night Court and Taxi) makes me wonder why today's theme songs ain't got no soul. Best use of a bass harmonica, along with The Boxer by Simon and Garfunkel.

  I mean, most automated tools from autoconf to AI do this, but it's harder to recognize when you're misusing AI if you don't know your goal with detailed clarity.
