This really angers me: https://www.worseonpurpose.com/p/your-pet-care-got-worse-on-purpose Private equity is preying on our love for our pets by consolidating ownership of veterinary clinics and hiking prices. Our love turns into their profits.

Reading the OpenAI hugging face hack information… First, OpenAI should be prosecuted under the CFAA Second, the hacks are mostly boring. The fact that each of the environments allowed access to credentials and/or shelling out is just horrid security. The fact that a machine could brute force (try a bunch of different approaches in rapid succession) to obtain what should have been privileged info/access underscores that we need radically better security by default.

RE: https://mastodon.world/@davidho/116877633501458279 My dad was a physicist and started his career in the 1960s when the US and the USSR were in a race for scientific supremacy… His work led to the ability to do 4nm silicon chips (what’s running in your phone) Other work led to GPS. The research funded in the 60s and 70s had a 50+ year benefit to the US economy. Ceding that now (the Chinese are spending a lot on basic research) is fucking stupid

250 years ago today, Rhode Island (my home state) renounced allegiance to the King. Rhode island was the first state to declare independence and was joined by 12 other colonies on July 4. https://turnto10.com/news/local/old-state-house-to-reopen-in-rhode-island-to-celebrate-act-of-renunciation-may-1-2026 May the 4th be with you as it has been with us for 250 years

Had a wicked interesting discussion with @shriramk about LLMs, teaching programming languages, and the possibilities for open source with a real revenue model today. Will write up some thoughts soon

RE: https://mastodon.social/@dpp/116523200391081871 The short form: open source becomes domain specific languages that have skills, etc. defined for each DSL. LLMs code in the DSL and wire the DSL defined modules together. The key is each DSL has a formal proof of its functionality. A ProofBOM. Use the DSL for free. Pay a license fee for the digitally signed ProofBOM Thoughts @interfluidity @rstephensme @ogrady

RE: https://infosec.exchange/@da_667/116116812032776927 Let’s do some math… feeding a person 2,000 calories a day over 20 years is about 15 million calories or 18Kwh… or the power required to run one of the gigawatt data centers for 0.007 seconds
