RE: https://mastodon.world/@davidho/116877633501458279 My dad was a physicist and started his career in the 1960s when the US and the USSR were in a race for scientific supremacy… His work led to the ability to do 4nm silicon chips (what’s running in your phone) Other work led to GPS. The research funded in the 60s and 70s had a 50+ year benefit to the US economy. Ceding that now (the Chinese are spending a lot on basic research) is fucking stupid
