  Now on @FontsInUse: an incredible use of my Slight Chance font for the recent PDD tour of the Indonesian alt-rock band Perunggu, designed by Under The Table. It is such an unexpected joy to have a font inspired by something very specific (the early digital readouts of a cable TV weather channel...thanks @wpgne @forceh91 @ecweatherchannel !) and to see it travel across the world and get used so successfully in an entirely new context. https://fontsinuse.com/uses/78504/perunggu-pdd-tour-and-me...

  Part two of my two-part foundry launch happened 10 years ago today, when I launched Bungee from the bus as I was on my way to NYC for @Typographics . The website you see (djr.com/bungee) was designed with @nicksherman and Chris Lewis. On this bungiversary I want to express my gratitude to them, and to the folks at Font Bureau and @googlefonts for helping bring this typeface to life!

  Sometimes it can be instructive to strip away the central gimmick of a typeface to reveal the system beneath it. This is what I did this month with GIGAWARP, a font that abandons the slicing and dicing routine of last month’s Megawarp and replaces it with a system of continuous wormlike forms. My favorite part is the Unicase variant, which follows in the footsteps of the 1971 typeface Corporate Image.   Last night I released MEGAWARP, a new display sans serif steeped in the visual language of sci-fi. It is a new twist on the “laser beam” lettering you may have seen in film titles like Blade Runner, where a horizontal line of negative space slices through the upper portion of each letter. In Megawarp, these slices move around opportunistically, playing with the effect of fragmentation on legibility and style. Prepare for warp speed! https://djr.com/notes/megawarp-font-of-the-month

  Hot on the heels of the release of Fit Arabic, I am incredibly happy to announce FIT KANNADA, designed by Taresh Vohra and released by Mota Italic. It continues to blow my mind every time Fit gets adapted to new writing systems. And given that the Kannada script usually involves so many curved forms, I was amazed at how well Taresh was able to make it feel right at home in Fit’s super-blocky design system.   Today @FontsInUse features a truly mind-blowing use of my typefaces Fit and Lab DJR for http://mikesmaze.com, rendered in corn at font sizes upwards of 100,000pt. The maze asks the question “In the age of artificial intelligence, what makes us human?” and was designed by Jess Marsh of Hired Hands Signs (https://www.hiredhandsigns.com / http://instagram.com/hiredhandsigns).   One of the most mind-blowing use of my fonts in recent memory is now on @FontsInUse@typo.social : The Canadian Space Agency used my font Condor on the Artemis II mission patch for astronaut Jeremy Hansen, who recently returned from a 10-day voyage around the moon and back. The patch features artwork by Anishinaabe artist Henry Guimond and features symbols from the Indigenous Peoples of Canada.   My latest typeface is based on the cover lettering of a 1950s trigonometry textbook that was way more interesting than it needed to be. The letters R and K are obvious standouts, but there’s a lot of subtle mixing of deco and humanist elements that made this typeface a joy to puzzle out. http://djr.com/buckridge
