RE: https://framapiaf.org/@davidrevoy/117044615886264428 One of the highlights of my career is being able to collaborate with @davidrevoy@framapiaf.org on the @spritely@social.coop mascots (really, David did so much to transform my little doodles into real characters). David has been making beautiful, fantastical artwork in the commons and I have been a fan since Sintel. The prolific, high quality, and availability of David's work means that his art is a strong reference point within image...

we're not the only org that cares about empowering users by helping them better understand and participate in computing itself, but increasingly, it feels like Spritely is one of only a couple of places and it's getting harder and harder to get people to care, or it feels like it which just makes me care even more about our work but everything feels so precarious in this world rn

RE: https://hachyderm.io/@emilyskidsister/116994552007367487 While I don't use these tools myself, I think @emilyskidsister@hachyderm.io is right that if you are using them, it's important to try to make them as non-"personable" as possible. The hyper-empathy, hyper-personableness is something that's in the market interests of the bigger corporations. But it's like adding sugar to food everywhere: it sells more, and people will consume more, but it isn't good for...

Sometimes I think I'm laying it on a little too thick and then I find out that it really isn't thick enough I should just lay it on even thicker, this will lead to less ambiguity and confusion

Given all the "drama" about the previous "anti-genAI" Guix Consensus Document, I'm really glad to see an alternative that is pro-AI. I submitted as much useful feedback as I could in my review! https://codeberg.org/guix/guix-consensus-documents/pulls/14 I think it was particularly brave of @dthompson@toot.cat to let Grok get the lead authorship spot on this document!

How is the Bun rewrite in Rust going? https://lockwood.dev/ai/2026/07/27/how-is-the-bun-rewrite-in-rust-going.html It seems like if the initial token costs are to believed, the cost is approaching $1m USD, but it's likely, as the article says, that there were a lot of non-reported costs being spent from Anthropic helping the project along and continuous CI/CD.

RE: https://social.coop/@cwebber/116964060609145830 Just over an hour left to vote in this poll. And it's pretty interesting; a lot of votes, and a dead heat. And there's a lot of disbelief about whether or not such a machine can *even be built*. So let me up the stakes: this poll is informing whether or not to do a writeup on how to build *exactly this system*. And I'm currently leaning towards writing it up, if for no reason other than because I'm annoyed I'm being told...

A hypothetical: Imagine I held a magic wand that could make AI systems improve in all the following ways: - More environmentally friendly - Less capturable by a few large corporations - Less built on "plagiarism machine" foundations - More reasonable and capable of making judgements which are explainable, accountable, and more accurate - More participatory and open However, we are still left in our present socioeconomic system. Should I wave the magic wand and improve things, or doe...

OpenAI accidentally hacks Hugging Face. But it's more wild than that https://openai.com/index/hugging-face-model-evaluation-security-incident/ OpenAI was running an exploit test system in a sandbox. Their model determined that probably Hugging Face had model information that would be useful to complete the task, so it broke out of its sandbox, developed an exploit, broke into Hugging Face to go rooting around for information
