  While I like talking about the 2nd order effects of AI, on our brains and wellbeing as a society, the extractive business practices of the big labs, loss of agency, etc., I think it’s important to keep an eye on what these things _can_ do. Fighting over consciousness or not being able to count misses the tree for the forest. I really like this study because it talks about capabilities compared to humans. It’s uncomfortable but IMHO worthwhile, even if you just read the intro and results. https...

  I have been mulling about this identity with the craft of coding and that personally, I always was more interested in the outcome, building something that _works_, gets rid of the tedious thing that causes me problems it’s the first place. To follow @gizmo level description[1], I completed a tedious amount of level 1 stuff and started to appreciate level 2 via a mix of luck and youthful naivety.
