  I am recruiting a Ph.D. student! The Ph.D. will explore generative user interfaces (GenUI): UIs that are partially or fully generated to fit needs, skills, circumstances, or preferences using generative artificial intelligence. We are concerned with how this can be done in a way so professional computer users maintain control, ownership, and autonomy.   Hanging out on late.sh (https://late.sh) tonight. It's a weird and janky Discord/IRC/MUD-thing running in the terminal with ssh. It's most likely vibe coded and a completely centralized benevolent dictator-run thing. But its... pretty fun!

  Hey @vga256! Just finished your Mages & Modems book. Thanks for a great read! I could relate to a lot of your early computer experiences, although mine started a few years later. Perhaps I should try to note some of my own down too some time. One of the first one was playing Karateka and Space Invaders in DOS on a 8080 in my dad's physics lab. Must have been in 87 or 88. Lots of phone-line-blocking family agony in my past too.

  Today, James Eagan (@eaganj) and I presented MyWebstrates: Webstrates as Local-first Software at UIST 2024. Since we presented Webstrates (webstrates.net) in 2015, we have been trying to figure out how we could get rid of the need for a central server. With help from Peter van Hardenberg (@pvh), we figured it out!
