Today, James Eagan (@eaganj) and I presented MyWebstrates: Webstrates as Local-first Software at UIST 2024.
Since we presented Webstrates (webstrates.net) in 2015, we have been trying to figure out how we could get rid of the need for a central server.
With help from Peter van Hardenberg (@pvh), we figured it out!

Webstrates is our prototype of shareable dynamic media—software that is inherently collaborative, malleable so it can be changed by its users, and that can easily be distributed across devices—but it depends on a central server. MyWebstrates is Webstrates as local-first software and facilitates offline use, personal and collective digital sovereignty, and interoperability across and beyond the web.
