Social problems are caused by people listening to, acquiescing to, or being forced to go along with the "advice" or ideas of the wrong people. Kind of simple, really. What is difficult is getting enough people in key positions to stop doing that. IMO: good chunk of people are -profoundly- confused about the differences between legitimate authority (based in good judgement and expertise) and the abuse of authority. This becomes more obvious during fascism. 1/?

RE: https://zirk.us/@ChrisMayLA6/115785228581436725 YES. How a subject is framed has ALWAYS mattered. A lot. A whole lot. "A social mobility plan" is a great device for deflecting -away- from the real problem, which is any system that creates and then entrenches huge levels of inequity. Deflection can be very effective. Marketers and PR people hired by the wealthy know this. And it's a large part of how we got to these dystopias (by listening to the wrong people...

All my life it feels like people* listen to those shouting at each other about which track to take for the trolley dilemma. all while a mix of CRT folks, socialists, feminists, first nations folks, queer studies and post colonial studies folks have been saying (sometimes for centuries): Focus on those who would think to tie people to the tracks. Those folks are the real problems. Figure out how to contain -them- *who by default listen to mostly white men and deeply funded punditutes

Along the same lines: Ego will -generally- come up with self centered "solutions." Stuff that a person thinks makes them look good, or benefits them primarily. Compassion will -generally- come up with solutions that will really solve problems more equitably. It's a simple distinction, really, but a person has have some ability to listen to themselves and be able to tell which part is saying what That takes practice, but can be learned.

Speaking of, he makes zero mention of the pronounced and (by now) truly unmistakeable rightward tilt "journalism" and "news" have been taking, which is a thing Cassandra types have been yelling about for decades. Again: Manufacturing Consent came out in 1988, and he just pretty much ignores that, and spares not one sentence on WHY certain folks with -certain views- get inches of column spaces every week, and others get none. I could still go on, but I think...

Language evolves. Yes, Smith did write a book long ago and he railed against excesses in a neat little treatise. But newsflash: crapitalism is full of ruthless folks who identify as CAPITALISTS. Look in any dictionary for the current definition of any terms you feel unsure of, not some you tuber trying to get clicks by telling you crapitalists hate crapitalism. They don't. They have successfully distorted it. Badly. It's now seriously FUBAR. It deserves to be thrown out.

what would you have been doing 200 years ago today? As a human -my life- would have been tougher: no indoor plumbing, electricity, fewer options for obtaining and transporting goods -needed- to live on. Oh and medicine, little stuff like that (/s) So many innovations* have been helpful, and I appreciate the folks who helped bring them to reality. Making life more survivable was necessary. Humans now have the means and knowledge to do this (in healthier ways) for everyone. We could.

y'all realize that without dominance based ideas around masculinity, none of this... would be as bad, right? The musks, zucks, trumps and hegseths are as awful as they are -because- they believe in and try to live up to stunted, dominance based definitions of masculinity. And newsflash: hyper competitive, ruthless, and yes: abusiveness is essential to it. This is not rocket science, but you won't understand this if you only listen to white male punditutes. Because they partici...

what evolutionary advantage could there be for millions of rubes to keep mistaking the ability to physically oppress and abuse for authority or "leadership"? None. Zero, zip. Because it's not "an inevitable" or "natural" way to live, it's a fucking choice disguised as "natural" by sociopathic failures and fools who personally benefit from this style of "leadership" because they can&#...

If humans really lived up to the name of homo sapiens (wise human) we would globally treat fascism as a public health issue. Seriously.

y'all realize that the ultra wealthy need people to believe that life is about hierarchy and competition, right? There will always be folks who -can't- think for themselves very well. That's just reality. Those folks will follow and parrot as "THE TRUTH!!!": what is most appealing to them, and they -won't- be able to tell if it's bullshit or not.. And if one group keeps telling them they are "naturally superior&quot...

Here's to giving and feeling more peace and love in 2026. And to be crystal clear, in my book real love and compassion involves advocating for and supporting the giving of deserved consequences to those who knowingly have harmed others. IOW: here's to lots of impeachments, arrests, and imprisonment of fascists and the as peaceful as possible transfer of power to more fit people. Hey, I know it's a long shot, but it could happen. Happy New Year to antifa people ever...

@GossiTheDog any half way healthy culture would absolutely hold the execs who put Grok out there accountable for distributing any and all CSAM that the tool created. These assholes should be arrested and charged with creating and distributing CSAM.

Degrowth is an incredibly threatening idea to capitalists -esp. to some in certain industries. There's gonna be lots more disinfo and distortions about it. Degrowth targets -excesses- that are harmful (mega yachts, bombs, commutes- stuff we don't need to live well), not reductions to basic well being. Comments declaring we'll need to live in caves, or that reductions in population are necessary first steps …yeah, ya might want to investigate whether they are paid shi...

wtf happened to these people who work for ICE for this admin? What the hell went wrong in their lives for them to be such utterly failed humans? I'm completely serious. How the hell can you ever convince yourself: "I'm a hero" while you HAVE TO HIDE YOUR FACE SO PEOPLE WON"T SEE WHAT A HORRIFIC HUMAN YOU ARE? what fucking losers. do not take this observation as an anti masking stance. we all know those failed humans are not masking for health reason...
