RE: https://mastodon.sprawl.club/@ludicity/116939432745772414 This is why, in NN#3, I wrote: "We have not demanded proof that AI is, in fact, such a necessary technology that it qualifies as a must-win arms race. We just took the word of a few officials on that. We have not been shown decisive evidence that the economic benefit of AI to society is worth the social cost of it. We have taken the word of a few billionaires with a technology to sell on that." https://www.transiti...

RE: https://mstdn.social/@coloradosun/116534390370909788 I mean, good on the Colorado Sun for including this note at the bottom of the article, but I can't help but despair that it's even necessary. This used to be assumed as a fundamental tenet of journalism. But in the brave new world of hallucinating AIs, I guess it's now necessary. "Type of Story: News Based on facts, either observed and verified directly by the reporter, or reported and verified from know...

RE: https://mastodon.energy/@TransitionShow/116528622327147092 By 350.org's count, the war in Iran has already cost ordinary households more than $150 billion, which goes to oil and gas companies opposing the #energytransition. The energy transition is the only way out of the fossil fuel trap, esp. for importers of oil & gas.

Anybody here have expert knowledge on Nigeria's power grid, and knows why their generation has been unstable recently, and why their grid had a "total system collapse" today? https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-66810202 https://www.vanguardngr.com/2023/09/breaking-blackout-as-nigerias-electricity-generation-drops-93-5-to-273mw/

Per new analysis by @emberclimate China's solar exports in March were a whopping 68 GW, DOUBLE the previous month, and equivalent to Spain’s entire solar capacity, surpassing the previous record set in August 2025 by 49%. Fascinating observations on EVs from David Fickling: - High adoption rates in developing countries - EVs pencil out unsubsidized - Oil & gas are ~1/3 of all imports to In India and Pakistan - Switching half of India’s car fleet to EVs could eliminate its current account deficit - Rich countries are sabotaging their own energy transitions https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2025-08-10/the-whole-world-is-switching-to-evs-faster-than-you?accessToken=eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiIsInR5cCI6Ikp...

RE: https://mastodon.social/@nworbmot/116370671629605712 It can't be said often enough, so I'll say it again: Solar and batteries can power the world! It's cheaper than gas (esp. at today's prices) and a lot more reliable. By 2030, solar and batteries could supply 90% of electricity to 80% of the world's population for < €80/MWh (including backup).

RE: https://mastodon.energy/@TransitionShow/116290798322955589 Major media coverage of the enormous damage that's been done to the Gulf oil & gas infrastructure is still way behind the reality, ever distracted by Trump's efforts to jawbone the price of oil down. But you can be informed and ready for the pain to come. Listen in to this FREE episode!

QOTD: "It’s getting predictable enough to trade it: every time the 10-year approaches 4.45%, a 'ceasefire breakthrough” materialises out of thin air. The best gauge of the war is the yield curve."

RE: https://mastodon.energy/@TransitionShow/116290798322955589 I have only been watching oil markets closely for like 25 years, so I could be wrong, but I very much doubt there has ever been a gap this big between reality and the markets. Brent at $101 right now is ABSURD. It could easily double from here. Listen in and find out why!
