Most social media is ridiculous, but LinkedIn is really next-level ridiculous.

I do sometimes look back and wonder if my career trajectory in tech would have been different had most of the places I’ve worked for had titles beyond “Senior [Developer/Engineer].” In some cases that was the _only_ title for folks.

I've worked in a lot of different tech stacks over the years. So far the worst to get started with is Apple Dev (Swift/SwiftUI/etc). Looking for _accurate_ documentation is like looking for a needle in a haystack. It's so frustrating.

I’ve been playing Valheim a bit but I inevitably quit when I get past the first biome as the game mechanics seem to just grind to a halt at that point.

Perhaps it's all the AI slop, perhaps it's something else, but my interest in anything tech related, including writing on my own site, is at an all-time low. Given tech is my hobby and my work, this means my desire to do much of anything lately is pretty much non-existent and it... sucks.

I regret sharing my open roles on my LinkedIn profile. In the 3-or-so weeks since I started my account back up from my reset, and where I shared an open role, I’ve had over 4,000 DMs and connection requests. I get it’s bad out there, but I couldn’t act on these if I wanted to (in that time our recruiting has booked me exactly 1 interview). I really, really fucking hate this timeline.

It was a good weekend. We went to a Chicago Fire game yesterday (they won 5-0) and visited a friend in the hospital today. Tomorrow we go back to work but it will be my first short week since getting back from Rome on 14 Feb. I really need the break.

Tonight’s adventure: front-row seats to Brendan Hunt’s (Coach Beard in Ted Lasso) new show at the Steppenwolf. I can’t wait!

I can’t believe it’s 2026 and I have to defend not automating some of my daily processes. Things like my morning routine allow me to both plan ahead and look back at yesterday’s work. If I was to automate that I would miss so many things. When I’ve had conversations about that, people literally think I’m crazy not to automate it anyway. It’s so weird.

So it took 3 hours at my SIL’s house for me to develop a migraine. It happens only there but every single time we’re there. I hate it.

Summary of a convo yesterday: Them: “Why don’t you want to be a tech exec again?” Me: “Because I value my humanity.” Them (dumbfounded): “But don’t you want to be rich????” Me: *facepalm
