  We started planning our pets exodus nearly 8 months ago with their Veterinarian. Despite that, they messed up the Rabies shots timeline for one of them (our cat June). That means I get to do a 48-hour turn around flight in a few weeks to pick her up. Very much not enthused, but at least the Vet is paying for my flights.

  In a fun practice for French bureaucracy I get sent from Air France to KLM back to Air France but this other part to submit paperwork which they may or may not reply to me about in 48 hours.

  I find it extremely funny that I spent a great deal of time writing the both the initial GDateTime implementation and libspelling. My neurodiversity has me terrible at dates and times as well as spelling. Or perhaps, that was the reason, I dunno.

  The JXL loading of backgrounds in GNOME is so slow for me now that if you don't already have the dark/light background cached in memory, it janks by not updating at the same time as libadwaita apps. This is on a brand new ThinkPad P1 Gen 8... Clearly I'm still not a JXL fan (yet).

  Spent the last month and a half working like crazy fixing little things, cleaning the house, moving a few things to storage, and letting go of a lot of stuff. Tomorrow, we do photos for the house listing and it will be up for sale by the end of the week. The number of days until we leave is getting pretty low. Sort of a perfect moment in time to soft retire given the state of the industry and the world at large.

  One of my concerns around how the Ireland corporate tax breaks are implemented and now closing the loopholes is that existing companies are grandfathered in. That essentially means you create this protected class of corporations which others cannot compete against with regards to moving money to those typical tax shelters (Cayman Islands, etc).
