Well. Got a call that Oswin's ashes and paw print are at the animal hospital for me to pick up. I asked for them for her, a first. Now I have to go pick them up when I am ready to ugly-cry for a while again.

RIP Oswin Cat. 2019-2027. Take a crowbar to a car near you in her memory. One minute harassing me. The next, gone.

It's a bit hard to reconcile “LLMs are useless snake oil" with “LLMs have killed the 90-day disclosure window”. https://blog.himanshuanand.com/2026/05/the-90-day-disclosure-policy-is-dead/

Current status: Finally stopped working. I have NO IDEA what tomorrow's “architecture review" is supposed to accomplish. Now drinking whisky and patting a cat.

So... today I happened to stumble onto a live stream for one of the youtube musicians I left a nice comment for yesterday and this person *remembered my name* and this was FANTASTIC and I recommend this experience. The stream was this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvk2Xxhcvwg Go be wonderful to this person.

Fezzik: Hello you are holding me. Ceej: Ye-- oof. Fezzik: Now you are not. Ceej: I was a launch point. Fezzik: I'm on the cat baking sheet. It's bake time. I love that you keep this warm spot for me. Ceej: That's my gaming PC. Fezzik: zzzzzzzzz

I live to write this THING and to noodle with the synths. Well, and to work on the personal software project that the world needs but almost certainly _will not use_ because it would rather write frothing blog posts about supply-chain attacks than actually take steps to prevent them.

Me: I’m falling asleep! This is annoying! Ego: It's 1am, DUH. Superego: Work in the morning, I guess, if you feel like it, which honestly, why do we want that, again? Me: Some superego you are. Id: We could stay up later. Me: But we’re nodding off. Id: Oh. Right. I'm supposed to be in favor of falling asleep. Me: Screw up. Sleep. But we brush our teeth first, to make superego happy. Ego: You realize Freudian analysis is pure bullshit, right? Me: Yeah yeah yeah. Shut up.

Fezzik: HELLO. You are holding me now. Ceej: I am. Fezzik: You will rub my belly now. Ceej: Okay, no problem. It's Caturday. You get the bellyrub. Fezzik: Also I will drool on you. Ceej: Look, can't you just walk to the food place and push your button like you know how to do? Fezzik: No.

Today was weird. I got lots of things done, at least. Now I am going to do something entirely frivolous and useless that does not enrich any corporate master in any way.

The 1970s was the last time all the lines were going in the correct direction in the US. Various individual lines have gone upward despite the horror show Reagan set in motion, and we had a bit of a tick upward in the Obama administration. What's going on now is a different category of change. It's all an omnishambles. The damage is going to take decades to undo. If someone’s response to that is to say that it has always sucked, then they're too ignorant to take serious...

Oh good lord, I have just read somebody posting that the response to the thundering herd of activitypub instances fetching link previews from a site is "use cloudflare because it's free". 1. Do not use Cloudflare. They support Nazis. 2. A better design for mastodon/pleroma/etc is to pass link previews along when they pass post content along. Fall back to fetching from the source when that isn't available. 3. Centralization has a lot of benefits. This is one e...

Uh oh, I've started watching The Pitt.

Very oblique spoiler but the plotline with the guy who made sets for the extremely famous Pittsburgh PBS TV show has absolutely gutted me and I now need to stop watching. Carry on with your Sunday evenings / Monday mornings.
