Oh good lord, I have just read somebody posting that the response to the thundering herd of activitypub instances fetching link previews from a site is "use cloudflare because it's free". 1. Do not use Cloudflare. They support Nazis. 2. A better design for mastodon/pleroma/etc is to pass link previews along when they pass post content along. Fall back to fetching from the source when that isn't available. 3. Centralization has a lot of benefits. This is one example. It's harder to be decentralized; work is repeated.
