The 1970s was the last time all the lines were going in the correct direction in the US. Various individual lines have gone upward despite the horror show Reagan set in motion, and we had a bit of a tick upward in the Obama administration.
What's going on now is a different category of change. It's all an omnishambles. The damage is going to take decades to undo. If someone’s response to that is to say that it has always sucked, then they're too ignorant to take seriously.

@ceejbot It may have "always sucked," within the lifetime of many people now, but the sucking is so much worse now than in most of the last fifty years, that it should be obvious to everyone that it's a different phenomenon. The primary cause should also be readily apparent.
