i think what bothers me about the saying "time is an illusion" is that its the perception of time that is an illusion and time is real in that it is an emergent property of physical circumstances and thus has real physical implications that are not illusionary... i think sometimes that is part of the joke but i also know its sometimes not a joke and is a rationale for certain behaviors or beliefs
