  We need to keep the #cats' food fresh on days when no-one's around to feed them at lunchtime and it's too warm to leave lots of food out at breakfast, which is what I've been doing. We were given a feeder so I've cleaned it up and am testing that it works. My theory is that it will at least keep flies off fresh food. If it goes well I might upgrade to one that keeps food chilled. We're also seeing if they can so without a litter tray as they hardly...

  I've just mowed the lawn for the first time in about 10 years. At our old place the landlord arranged a mowing service and here Dad had a guy who did it but £200 on a battery lawnmower is a snip compared to what he was paying. This way I can cut it high, leave a few sneaky verges and mow round the daisies 😃 Dad will insist on a socially respectable front garden though, no getting away with longer grass and wildflowers there.   I have the desire to potter about with plants and get my new raised fruit/veg bed sorted out but apart from the blistering temperatures I've picked up a completely flattening virus from a colleague so I don't have the energy. I keep falling asleep when I sit down. I've put some nasturtium seedlings into a planter, moved the radish planter to the veg area and helped move a couple of bits into our summer seating area and that's me done. #gardening

  I've discovered #BorrowBox today. I don't know if all #libraries are signed up, but through those that are, if you have a libary card, you get free access to books, magazines and papers through your phone. I've spent much of today ambling through The Rugby Paper, BBC History Magazine, a couple of naff knitting magazines and now BBC Easy Food which is giving me lots of ideas for easy meals, as I've got a bit bored with meals lately.   My son has put up herb drying hooks for me in the utility room! I'm beyond delighted! He's also put up the plastic greenhouse we got weeks ago so it is now filling with things that need potting on and generally sorting out. I'm also hoping to sort out a small raised veg plot and a pond, so my garden mojo is well and truly back. It's nice to feel enthusiastic again. #gardening

  I've gone back to a paper diary. I switched away from the app I loved and had used for years as it was getting dodgy. I tried Fossify Calendar but just couldn't settle with the display to the point that I started forgetting upcoming appts, so I have delightedly gone back to paper.   I'm reading an Evelyn Anthony book, The Defector, and I'm gripped. This specific copy used to be on the bookshelf along with many others by her in the room I stayed at in my grandparents's house, and I used to think, aged eight or so, that they looked the most boring books on earth. Now decades later I'm really enjoying them. I think this change in perspective and growing appreciation of things is one the aspects of getting older that I really treasure.

  Guardian article today about crappy jobs. I haven't read it and this post isn't commentary on it, but to lighten the atmosphere, which is sombre in our house following another bereavement, it might be fun to share our first jobs - Saturday jobs, holiday jobs etc, not careers.   Ah you have to laugh where you can. My mum died in the night, not unexpected. Dad and I went to the funeral director early today. The funeral director had fabulous black boots on (which I pointed out to her in case she hadn't noticed 😄). She said they were from Next, I said they'd prob be too narrow for me, and the other woman there sympathised and said her feet were so wide she was better off with the box! I'm not sure this was the chat my father expected from the funera...
