  Sincr ethic issues can no longer convince people to stop using AI, may I present a new argument for the AI optimists in our industry: - You should not support an industry that actively jeopardizes your own livelihood. - I am not talking about AI taking your jobs, guys, employers sure don’t care about that. - I am talking about what you do everyday is why your customers can’t afford to play your game, even when they are free to play. - *You are* making hardware too expensive for your players.

  It is possible to leak the full game by mistake but also be the top Steam seller (just with pre-order), sometimes the world gives us some hope. Also hope: a game can only be leaked and played early if it doesn’t require always online, almost a luxury in this era.

  There are clear difference between “being enabled to do things that you know but would otherwise not have time to attend to” and “being emboldened to do things that you don’t fully understand which would normally take more time” All experts argument for the former are in no way an excuse for the latter. And guess which ones are currently being pushed by corporate overlords?

  So this is how the modern web works: - it will load the page in full, often in blazing speed due to clever optimization to first paint and ready state, and they make sure bots can read the page in an accessible format too. - then it will block us from interacting with them by JavaScript, load all the ads and prompts, and cut the page in half so that human have to pay the toll price, get tracked by data miners and sacrifice mobile battery. This is all part of the web standard by the way.

  In China there is a joke where “Project Manager will task 10 women to birth a child in 1 month”. And from the looks of current artificial intelligence landscape, this is exactly what win over investors. The perfect productivity is thought to be achieved with Evangelion LCL like data centers where human copilots are just liability.

  This is what I see everyday, on almost every site. I am not a bot, I am a person trying to access your website via VPS. It used to be totally fine, for the past 2 decades of my life at least. Then malicious bots from a totally innovative (not at all crimes against humanity) tech industry arrived. Now my life is about running away from both authoritarian governments and these innovative companies.

  Upgrading to macOS Tahoe also made me realize the new “Games” app is actually a Trojan horse to give Apple the best analytics for free, above all mobile competitors: - It tracks gameplay sessions not just from Apple Arcade and iOS store, but also all Steam games and macOS apps! - More importantly, you agree to this AS SOON AS YOU OPEN THE APP, the only way to keep Apple from tracking your game sessions is to NOT USE THE APP AT ALL.

  My takeaway on reading a recent thread on CS course is that: many universities are not teaching CS right, they are teaching Software Engineering courses. Classic CS courses are mostly Maths.

  Heard an interesting report on Movie ticket pricing and think the film industry is going through the exact same problem as the game industry: Bigger but fewer big budget movies, thus higher average ticket price, thus fewer frequent movie goers, thus more focus on surcharging movie goers on early preview and concessions (snacks).   I ran this poll 2 years ago and 90% of the correspondents on mastodon told me there were no required AI usage at their workplace. I would like to ask the same question again in 2026: “Does your workplace have any AI related requirements, either as major project goal, in performance review, or with usage analytics tracking, against your own will?” Boost welcomed.
