Why Google Maps is trash for (bike) navigation. Here it suggests two routes: one along a busy road, another along a highway. Meanwhile there is the cutest absolutely drop dead gorgeous nature rich path with zero traffic. The kicker: it's even shorter... #Maps #Navigation

My aunt gave me a 50 year old Indonesian cookbook she used during a course way back. I feel like a wizard finding an ancient spellbook. It’s full of ingredients and spices I didn’t even know existed. Boy am I going to have fun with this. #cooking #Indonesia

I found a pedestrian traffic light in the Netherlands that is either green or ‘you may cross at your own risk’. So basically how pedestrian traffic lights work worldwide (except Germany), but they made it official.

We wrote a new #AI usage policy for #MapLibre. I respect projects that ban AI outright. It was discussed as an option, and it's not unthinkable we will ever go there. https://github.com/maplibre/maplibre/blob/main/AI_POLICY.md tl;dr: don't let AI speak for you, disclose AI usage and verify AI assisted contributions before marking a PR as ready for review.

If you are at #sotmeu25, be sure to check out the workshop for creating your own basemap with #MapLibre and Planetiler. 13:30 (1:30PM) @ Way. Thanks @waysidemapping for the picture of my lightning talk earlier. 😇

This #camera belonged to my grandfather, who has passed away almost 50 years ago. Light meter and mechanics still work flawlessly. Definitely built when things were still made to last… I didn’t know until recently, but it is actually a proper rangefinder (like a #Leica you can drop a few grand on). That means there is a little ghost image of your subject in the viewfinder you can match up to focus. Almost through my first roll. Will post the results here! #AnalogPhotography #Film #Photography

@thomasfuchs You can simulate a nuclear reactor or a car crash too even though the real world is way more complex. That is kind of the point of a simulation.

In #Berlin this weekend for a #dweb meetup. I hope to get some #MapLibre map-making goodness on the schedule of #dwebcamp this Summer. In any case: no plans for Sunday yet. Suggestions welcome, or if someone wants to hang out, maybe work a bit together in a café, feel free to DM me!

Last weekend I updated my skills ready for the post #AI age with a #sewing lesson. I can now sew a button. It’s not much, but feels good.

#FlixTrain is not too bad for the price. Wifi even works which is next-level for German standards. Especially for people like me that like to decide on travel last minute it is great, because #DB is like 4-5 times as expensive then.

Long overdue, but I finally have a blog again! My first blog post is about my experience visiting #Berlin and hanging out with #DWeb. https://louwers.dev/blog/tech-weekend-in-berlin/ Thanks @tmcw for his article 'How to blog'. It kept me from falling in the all too familiar familiar trap to look for the perfect blogging solution, instead of keeping it simple so you can focus on writing. https://macwright.com/2019/02/06/how-to-blog Still need a good way to handle images without...

The Germans are on a roll, next talk is another custom Go server with from @woodpeck. A way to query a public #PostGIS database called PostPass. Can be used with Overpass Turbo / Ultra. Example: https://overpass-turbo.eu/s/2fuU Really cool to see these innovations by #OSM veterans. #sotmeu2025
