I have mixed feelings (to say the least) about academic disciplines that not only study the role that AI can play in research, but already surrender major parts of their reviewing processes to it. I acknowledge that it is no longer possible to cope with the sheer number of papers that are produced in traditional ways. But maybe the whole academic process needs revision then? I am seeing few such discussions... https://sigmoid.social/@UKPLab/116237910036113472 #AI #ComputerScience #Conferences...

Die Her...

@cmboulanger and I are excited to publish the final program of the Workshop "Reference Extraction at the Intersection of AI Research and the Digital Humanities: Validation, Interoperability and Collaboration", to be held at the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory (mpilhlt) in Frankfurt/Main on Tuesday, 4th Nov 2025: https://mpilhlt.github.io/reference-extraction/workshop-2025/programme/ More information about registration and the workshop series can be foun...

Two days ago, when I presented #spaCy and #transformers as two state-of-the-art #NLP libraries that can bring deep learning and pretrained language models to bear on the task of reference extraction at the #RefExtract23 workshop, I wasn't aware that since about a week ago now, spaCy now even features a pipeline explicitly for integrating LLMs into its workflows: https://github.com/explosion/spacy-llm This will be interesting to look into! Here is the announcement on the birdsite: https:...

New paper out: "*Beyond* Data Feminism" ( @sarahalang and Elena Suarez Cronauer, my emphasis) in the hopes of making more people realize that it potentially applies to them. Too many (mostly male presumably) researchers assume it does not to them even when they are ready to "forward it to my female students" 🙄 . https://zfdg.de/wp_2026 #DHd2026 #DataFeminism #FeministDH Huch, warum schreibe ich plötzlich auf englisch? Ah, wahrscheinlich weil die Input Stat...

Panel #DarkSidesOfDH : A point from the audience I like a lot (sorry I did not see who asked): Avoid virtue signalling, for instance by avoiding calling things what in fact they are not. Case in point: calling projects collaborative, bottom-up etc. when we cannot really explain in what sense we claim them to be so. #DHd2026
