Last year I gave a talk at MKGN about my personal reflection on how, after years of chasing IndieWeb perfection, I just accepted my imperfect online third-space and how it is now space for genuine connection. Some bits you may be familiar with, but hey, that's talks for you. https://ohhelloana.blog/mkdn/

Yesterday I was on a call talking about the indieWeb in Portuguese and oof. The brain power of translating and saying things I only ever thought in English was a whole workout. 😮‍💨

What’s with the audio in this last series of the great British sewing bee?? I’m on iplayer, and it doesn’t matter how much I increase the volume, nothing meaningful happens. This has been happening in so many shows in different apps too 😡

Because of trains, I am currently gambling on the bus turning up so that I can make it to today’s HWC on time. The good news is that the @astro tote bag has the perfect shape to carry cupcakes 🧁

    I didn’t make these. #indieWebCamp

I know I am not allowed to complain about a spoiler from a book published in 1811. Yet, I am absolutely raging that I looked up what an expression meant and Google’s AI overview put a big spoiler 👹

One of the most liberating things that ever happened to my brain was hearing and accepting that “no thought is original”. The amount of times I’ve stumbled upon someone else’s take on an idea I had is high, but these days it doesn’t stop me from still thinking through my own spin on things, for fun.

So Gatwick south terminal has decided to remove the lovely soft play area for kids. The new kids area is by the gates in a dark corner. It’s tiny with hard floors and it sucks imo. Last time I was in the north terminal (June), the kids area was still “in renovation” after one year. The child-hating decisions on public spaces is an epidemic that needs to be shamed.

It's often uneasy for me to share my experiences as a woman in tech, but this job market has me worried for everyone stuck somewhere harmful. I admire everyone who takes on "women in tech" speaking gigs but I am also angry for them and us. https://ohhelloana.blog/woman-in-tech/

just driving by to share that for an embarrassing amount of time, i thought “tradWife” was a new trend where wives brag about doing trading on bro apps. I had not seen content about it, this was just an assumption based on the word’s potential meaning. 🫠

I was able to join tonight's Homebrew Website Club and my eldest made sure to say hi too. But I also showed one of my very offline projects: my own #IndieWeb cross-stitch banner 🪡😁 PS.: there's an #IndieWebCamp this weekend ahead of https://beyondtellerrand.com https://events.indieweb.org/2026/04/-indiewebcamp-d%C3%BCsseldorf-ewHCZehNA3gg

If you don't have access to the pilot project you can get the hormone progesterone prescription via a fertility clinic without doing fertility treatments which is what I did. It cost me around £50 for the prescription plus the appointment. I am happy to chat about this 🫂 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c62r8lzgnk2o

not only this post allowed me to delete one draft, it also forced me to fix the silly open graph image. who knows. https://ohhelloana.blog/why/ Why build a website? Why knit a jumper with your bare hands? Why cook a homemade meal from scratch? Why paint in a canvas? Why fix a broken thing? Why write a letter? Why anything really?

Took a whole week off. It was great! Spent the last two hours of my holiday framing and doing collages of the drawings my daughter did this year so far.

You know what absolutely winds me up? The pre-game graphics & line-up photos for the premier league games. No matching poses! One year, there was a terrible photo direction with the lights that irritated me. The best year was when the players did a serious pose and a fun pose.

I am over the moon! I brought my 14 year old laptop from Portugal. I had completely forgotten about it. I ordered a new SSD (cost me a fortune) and I am planning to put Linux Mint on it as it is draggging itself with Windows 10. Anyway! I remembered that I could try to plug my Kobo Mini (2012) in it and try to update the firmware as my macbook pro doesn't recognise the device at all... And it worked! My perfectly functional Kobo Mini now connects to the wi-fi! No e-waste here! 💚

I did a quick and incomplete update to my /now page. I've now added a "days since I last mentioned The Rasmus". Technically, this post alone should reset it but, my blog, my rules, so no. https://ohhelloana.blog/now/

Today was a good day. Daughter got offered a place in our first choice of school and I successfully added a new SSD and added Linux mint to my very old laptop. Tomorrow: sewing and writing day.

In 2019 I wrote a quick note about my fears of when will I be deemed a "bad immigrant": https://ohhelloana.blog/about-the-b-word/ Since posting that I've become naturalised but it doesn't mean I am at peace. I can't pull the ladder up behind me so please have a look too at the government consultation on earned settlement as it ends this Thursday. It is grim and hostile and made my journey look easy when it wasn't. The things I was afraid of in...

New blog post: https://ohhelloana.blog/overthinking-ai/ A post without any conclusion, solution or nothing. Just thoughts, processing memories and feelings. Yesterday I was thinking about why I gave up one of my passions: films. And I jot down how the heartbreak is similar to stupid AI. Whatever.
