@mia @shibao I don&#39;t think the barrier to normies using irc is the ui anymore I think it&#39;s that they don&#39;t want to make choices or learn things (like what&#39;s a server, which one am I suppose to join, do I need this port option, etc). I think you can get them to download app, enter phone or email, and click a link (or scan a QR code). That&#39;s about it.

@mia @shibao Bluesky had moderate success with the &quot;twitter sucks we&#39;re doing our own thing&quot; messaging. My mother in law is on there, anyway. But they heavily compromised on federation to do it, and I think any mainstream app would probably need to do the same. I think a discord clone with an atproto backend (or even just sign-in) would do pretty well.
