@metalab@chaos.social Thank you @qch3n@chaos.social for the warm welcome and showing me around; you've got a great place here in Wien, and I'm glad to have met you! Many thanks to @Hetti@chaos.social for the tip that let me get here :blobcat: I even got to use your iconic phonebooth and call home (i.e. @hswaw@social.hackerspace.pl ), so I'd say the visit is a great success. Stop by at our place if any of you get to Warsaw!

I came to a public consultation about my university's stance on "AI" use. The rector joined us and was very «surprised pikachu face» when I did my exposé about the dangers, environmental and societal costs, deskilling, etc. Basically, the "stance" is a spineless normalisation of status quo with no real concern about ethics. I know I'm fighting windmills, but at least I could throw "epistemic bankruptcy" out there.

RE: https://social.hackerspace.pl/@aceryz/116529926885621476 Not to brag, but I think my version is a vast improvement over the poster prepared by @ARISS_Intl The bar was kinda low though. Like, buried deep underground low. What do you think? They could use a little help, it seems.

We've finished and tested a QFH antenna at @hswaw to capture NOAA signal at ~137 MHz. It might need some more tuning, but the polarisation alone seems to do the job: the first traces of signal were visible when the satellite (NOAA-19) was as low as 4 degrees above the horizon, even though we're in the middle of a big city! Next on the roadmap: fixing the antenna on the roof (it's not that comfortable to hold it for 15 minutes) and automating the image capture with a Pi o...
