Second foray into a glaze. This time a cone 05 clear glaze. Test tiles…. En garde! They cook tomorrow. Wish me luck, please #pottery #ceramics

So, today I am firing my first set of test tiles with a low-temp glaze I formulated myself using the Glazy calculator (and after reading some truly excellent books on it - credits to Linda Bloomfield, Mary Fox and John Britt.) I am posting this so that, when my tests come out of the oven later, and they all look like shit, I will be forced to photograph them and show you my lack. #pottery #ceramics #glazes

I do not belong to the Labour Party in the UK anymore. I have not for quite a few years. However, to tar the entirety of the Labour Party as anti-Palestinian or pro-Israel is as absurd as the original and causal tarring of the entire Labor Party as anti-semitic. However, there is some history here that needs to be addressed. There was a very tiny contingent within the Labour party who could not differentiate between the Israel and its policies towards Palestinians and Jews in general. 1/

I oscillate between believing Dora to be the sweetest cat in existence and wondering if I’m hosting a demonic imp. Both the application stage and the polishing stage of the #terrasigillata process requires her way too close supervision. Especially when the plastic bag rustles as I polish

RE: https://hachyderm.io/@inthehands/116959074622157576 This requires reframing- and I exclude the few Americans who are still actively working against this, of course- America turns a blind eye to the forcible ‘disappearing’ of hundreds of thousands.

There seems to never be an end to the barrage of people who need to re-write history to accord with their own ideology. But here we are again. And it takes a pretty admirable determination to patiently, over and over, unpack the lies and the rhetorical sleights of hand. So a big thanks to Lachlan Peters for doing it. #denialism #ideology #cambodia https://open.substack.com/pub/shadowsofutopia/p/debunking-the-debunkers-how-many?r=y5fpm&utm_campaign=post-expanded-share&utm_medium=web

RE: https://flipboard.com/@cnn/world-news-4kh9bmbmz/-/a-6wY_1s_ZQw6Q3QIIZ1ZT2g%3Aa%3A132361178-%2F0 It's not that I have a problem in principle with banning children from social media. My problem is that it is a fucking LAZY ASSED response that doesn't lay the responsibility where it belongs and demand the accountability necessary to address the problems of social media. Governments need to hold social media companies accountable for the harm they cause in publishing harmful content o...

This morning I’m decorating my little katacuchis. It’s a very useful shape that can be used for pouring sauces, sake, dipping vessels or just as a bowl. They can be all sorts of sizes. #Ceramics #pottery

I am sure this lovely lady didn't mean it this way but, for those of us who have lived in poor places, the fetishising of handwashing comes off as obscene privilege. There are women - yes, they're always women - all over the world who either don't have electricity or can't afford a washing machine. And they routinely spend a day a week handwashing a family's laundry. I must say, I find poverty cosplay deeply disturbing https://www.instagram.com/reel/Dax_h52KmRj/?utm_sourc...

It makes me laugh reading posts by people who supported Argentina because Spain was a colonizer. Meanwhile, Argentina much more recently disappeared tens of thousands of democracy activists. And now they have a president to wields chainsaws on stage. So yeah, please, by all means, get historic.

Maybe countries that refuse to participate in genocide and in unprovoked wars, and don't kiss up to Trump, and acknowledge that they need and appreciate immigrants will start winning again. One can only hope.

It's not like I care all that much about football, and I would have been very happy if Belgium had won, after what Trump did to them. But Spain just won!!!! WHOOHOOO Wouldn't it be delicious if Trump was forced to give Spain that fucking cup? #worldCup2026

Next step in my terra sigillata journey: half ball clay, half kaolin.(200 gm each) in 800 gm water. This time I used equal amounts of soda ash and sodium silicate 1.5 gm each as deflocculant. You can use soda ash alone (washing soda) but it takes longer for the mix to settle and separate #ceramics #pottery #terrasigillata

RE: https://beige.party/@mayintoronto/116870346580431893 Don't make me have to document fitted sheet folding, damnit! Also, once you get all the corners tucked inside each other, the secret is - fold in thirds. That way, your linen fits into the stupid, impossibly shallow, Ikea shelving unit.

An illustrated guide to how to fold a fitted sheet when you (I) have fuck all spacial awareness. First rule: Do this on a flat surface. A bed, a floor, a big table. Second rule: ignore everything but the corners for now. 1/ #foldingafittedsheet

To my northern neighbours suffering from the current heat wave. I lived in approx 38C with 90% humidity for 20 years, and I have a few pieces of advice. 1. Don't do anything fast that you can do slow. 2. Umbrellas aren't just for rain. They work for sun, too. 3. Sweat is your friend. Drink lots of liquid, eat and drink things that trigger sweating. 4. Cold showers and baths trigger your body to warm up. Room temp showers work best - and don't bother drying off.

Frankly, I am finding the disingenuous questioning by the press of why these racist fuckers are burning houses down in Belfast and why Elon Musk and Nigel Farage are fanning the flames. It's absolute enjoyment. They are absolutely getting off on it. And until we call it absolutely what it is - perverse sadism - loud and clear, and keep saying it, it gives everyone an excuse not to do what has to be done. X is inciting murder and ethnic cleansing in the UK. It needs to be cut off.

There is an Anglo guy in Madrid who makes these beautiful pottery tools by hand. I was looking for a Japanese style tool called a 'cow's tongue' - gyubera. I also bought a couple of other tools, too. The company is called Veta, and look at the beautiful quality of his work! https://veta.studio #ceramics

Look, I am not entirely disconnected from the economic system in which we find ourselves. I do understand that the Tories left a mountain of debt that needs to be serviced and a stagnant economy. But there absolutely ARE ways to address this if you can get economists who can think outside the box. That is what Labour should have done, instead of simply re-embracing austerity. It wasn't just cruel, it was lazy answers to challenging questions.
