‘Anyone who has driven at night in the last few years knows what I’m talking about: A modern crossover crests a hill in the opposite lane, and the cabin briefly fills with enough cold-white light to suggest a police helicopter has joined traffic. The obvious assumption is that drivers are simply leaving their high beams on more often, but the reality is more complicated.’ Yep… been blinded for critical seconds around bends many times and that was with beams dipped! There is a *Standard* to do w...

That went well… Massive fail in my case. Blissful silence ensued throughout the day so far. I checked… yes my mobile is on. Yes, battery is over 50% (does the 5%age mattee?. Notification settings all turned on. Massive fail I’d say. Well done, great technology. Jeewizz I feel so much safer. #AusAlert https://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/ausalert-emergency-warning-test-what-you-need-to-know-and-how-to-prepare/zghu8pk7o

It doesn’t look like the Victorian Parliamentary Labor Causus was opposed to Allen’s legislative agenda as much as it was unconvinced Labor could win the coming election under her leadership. It might mean that Allen has burned through too much political trust with the electorates of Victoria and that the Party needs a new ‘face’ with an agenda that addresses Allen’s electoral shortcomings… Accountabilty, Transparency and action on corruption allegations. IMO there is are lessons here for #Alb...

‘Consumers cannot inspect supply chains or test what is inside a packet. They trust what is on the label.  But food fraud expert Karen Constable says that trust is being exploited. "We have a problem with food fraud," she says. ‘ Yet again it is not only an issue of having too many hands, not in creating and updating appropriate regulations and standards, but too many agencies charged with ‘policing, reporting and prosecuting’ food fraud. Creating a central agency to oversee...

Last thing we need is a dryer continent and higher energy prices. #GenAI can take the back seat on this Australian bus. https://c.org/kSWvYBPjHT #AusPol #DataCenters #GenAISlop #WaterResources #EnegryResources #AIlegislature

There are only two observations I will make on these #tRUmp flunkies (#PaulineHanson #BridgitMackenzie and #BarnabyJoice among other #RWNJs), 1) they are either complete and utter idiots and have no mind of their own, OR, 2) they are the most despicable arseholes on the planet. There are not other ways to take this in. For the record: The above is merely an opinion based on the propaganda and reporting that is available to me from various News media outlets. If I were more charitable, I would...

Our #PM has said: “ "We'll create a legal obligation for the next generation of large-scale data centres to underwrite new power supply, to pay their full share of grid connection, so no costs are passed on to homes or businesses," (Source ABC NEWS live) We’ll have to wait for the legislation to find out if #ClimateAction is in there, because, given what we see elsewhere, these #TechBros #Datacentres aren’t shy about burning #FossilFuels (enough to power entire citites in some ca...

The Commisioner, it seems, is indeed willing to listen to other than #GenocideApologists . “The head of the Jewish Council of Australia has been “overwhelmed” with support after giving evidence about attacks on her by neo-Nazis and the pro-Israel lobby. Sarah Schwartz said the antisemitism royal commission was “clearly interested” in the experiences of Jewish people who are critical of Israel, “particularly experiences of targeting and silencing”. “My evidence s...

This is Kos Samaras’ #analysis of the #AUstralian #ELectorate: “Gen Z is the most socially progressive generation in Australian history. On climate, on gender, on multiculturalism, on sexuality, the debates that consumed their parents are simply settled questions for them. However – and this is where most commentary gets them wrong – their progressivism is not primarily cultural. It is economic. This is a generation psychologically predisposed to economic populism: hostile to concentrated wealt...

It is comforting to know that the #Rich can’t do everything they want and that they will be held accountable. What is less clear is the ecological damage (vegetation and wildlife) that was done by the ?illegal? clearfelling of the land parcel. Even if the developer was to abide by the legally binding order to replant natives, it will take years to return to its original state. Unanswered are questions regarding the dubious ?shell? company which recently bought the land. Truly, #RealtyDevelopers...

There is a lot of #enshitification out there. The latest concerns a toot conversation that was interesting enough for me to pursue somewhat but in order to do so I needed to read articles published on a site. And I had issues with its #Cookies and #Privacy Policy. First I was presented with a cookie message which I could only get past by ‘accepting’ the site’s policy. There was no ‘Opt Out’ or ‘Decline’ options available and the message could not be removed from the screen (making reading any...

This gives me hope that Australians, by and large, aren’t what #PHON is all about: “Australian voters are sorting not on left-right economic axes but on openness-versus-authoritarian trait dimensions, and the sort is accelerating. Right-wing cultural populism, the One Nation product, mobilises the authoritarian end of that distribution. It is effective in cohorts where authoritarian traits are over-represented: older voters, voters with low formal education, voters in racially and culturally ho...

#AlboPM has consistently argued and recently publically confirmed that he believes the #HousingCrisis issue is a #SupplySide problem (I.e. cut red-tape and throw enough money at the problem and it be resolved). Well, here is something that shows us not only how wrong our #PM can be, but how stubbornly he holds on to his opinions no matter what (a behaviourly trait that will, I foresee, bring his undoing as leader of the #Labor party): “…right now, more than 100,000 approved dwellings are sitti...

This is hitting too close to home to feel complacent about the lack of #SocialHousing “An Indigenous woman, living in one of the wealthiest countries in the world, gave birth to twins in a tent. Seems I’m in error when tooting that #GasExport contract have ‘fixed prices’. They are way more complicated than that from what I am reading. None of the above changes what matters most one iota. Australia gets bugger all benefit from gas export, the environment is heavily compromised and nothing the #Ga...

Why are we farting around and bailing out failed enterprises anyway. They fail because too much $$ has been taken out of them until the kitty runs out. And whose responsibility is that? Not the public that’s for sure. So why bail them out? Instead, let’s #Nationalise the bloody paupers. With #NotForProfit status, these same #FailedEnterprises would survice and provide much needed jobs and supply independence to the Australian economy. Of course, such a move would mean the #Rats have no where to...
