  @Peternimmo I remember saying when mail delivery was opened to competition from private firms, they could “cherry pick” and choose not to deliver to “remote locations, leaving Royal Mail as the only business who “had” to deliver. This should not have been allowed, but l sort of follows the US “only in the contiguous 48 states” that leave Alaska and Hawaii similarly disadvantaged.

  @Fife4Europe what a surprise, after being told it was a stupid idea by virtually every sane person in the country. It’s just a shame the sane people have had to suffer for that stupidity along with them. We are broken.

  @asmodai In 50/60’s England, we had a cash payment for the return of “pop” bottles, I think it applied to beer bottles too. Milk bottles were swapped with doorstep deliveries. I believe the bottle deposit ended in the early 70’s, and we just knew it as “deposit”.

  @asmodai Not sure of the reason it stopped, some of us kids would game the system by going to the back of the shop and taking a few bottles to another shop for the money, but I suspect it was down to the manufacturers cutting back on the collection costs, and the distribution methods. It was no good sending a Pepsi bottle to Coca Cola so brands had to be stored separately and sorted by the shops…too much like hard work?

  @fkamiah17@toot.wales that’s part of it. The other part is the chancers in the Tory Party who gambled on Johnson, knowing full well he was a liar, a cheat, a bully and a lazy sod who could not be trusted, but yet Chose to put him in charge of their party. May they all rot in hell along with him.
