So I just realized something as I was listening to a night in the lonesome October as a October tradition. The lastney has this thing where he likes to end his books with a joke or a pun. That is a quote of something else. I remember being somewhat amused by that in dilvish, the Damned and I had forgotten that lonesome October ended that way too. Also, it stood out to me very much this year how casually he uses the g slur even though he's not using it intending it to be a slur because th...

@Remittancegirl That is precisely why cats go aggro nothing that will eat a cat that does not actively hunt. Cats is interested in putting up with something that looks aggressive. Even if it's tiny. They want food that doesn't bite back

I really like the Bobiverse books but a thing that bothers me a lot is when Bob goes and interacts with a Neolithic society, he teaches them how to make composite bows without ever teaching them how to use and make atlatles which are significantly more in line with the resources and technologies that they have access to, even with him showing them how to do parts of it

@danielhkwan so I'm catching up on John who, And I'm in episode 3 and I ajingm being reminded very much of a lot of jiang hu hustle where they spend a lot of time explaining the martial world and the sha. And I know that there are at least a couple of episodes where they go into quite a few non. wu sha films that touch on the same themes and dual world world motifs coming largely inspired by those movies. Including John wick

@hellcowkeith so for holiday songs, I think my favorite Thanksgiving standard was not originally supposed to be a Thanksgiving song, but it is a solid Thanksgiving tradition. Alice's restaurant. Also, I love that Carol of the bells is out. Is itself a novelty version of a song, it turns a early 20th century pagan celebration of spring song into a Christmas song and it was changed right after the original composer was assassinated for not supporting the Bolshevik revolution.

@hellcowkeith so I am very glad to hear about the Firefly cartoons. I'm even more excited that Joss whedon is not involved because all the worst parts of most of the Joss whedon series out there are directly due to him. And the stuff he was presenting as where he won the series to go. I'd be really glad to have less misogyny against inara and Kaylee.

@hellcowkeith so on the question of friendly AIS, I want to The mines from Ian Banks' culture books. Not every one of them is friendly because they're all people and sometimes people are assholes, but in general and in aggregate the minds are friendly. AIS and the smaller AIS are much more likely to just be assholes because they're much more like on the scale of normal people. I do think they are significantly more friendly than the AIS in the ancillary series of books wh...
