Another British leftist misjudgement is arguing with gammon types and using the point that "Well, we fought against fascism in the Second World War!" Honestly, these people don't give a shit, because they don't perceive it that way; they almost always talk about fighting "Germany," not "Nazi Germany." They're actually quite alright with fascism, as long as it's wrapped in the Butcher's Apron.

“They hate science. They hate literacy. They hate women. They hate nonwhite people. They hate LGBTQ people. Those aforementioned groups, they make things that make life great. They want to eradicate it and erase it. You can do more than one thing at once. You can entertain many things. And so you can be concerned and fight the good fight, and you can also put a record on and love the Cramps.” https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2026/07/cramps-new-abum-vengeance-records-poison-ivy-lux-interior-h...

"How, exactly, agents got inside encrypted Signal groups that by design aren’t supposed to leak beyond their participants remains the case’s open wound. Signal’s end-to-end encryption protects messages in transit, and the app retains almost no metadata to seize even under a compulsory process. So somebody, somewhere, was already on the inside." https://unicornriot.ninja/2026/government-says-terabytes-of-signal-chats-are-central-to-the-case-against-minnesota-15/

Targeting antifascist "cells" of activist networks shows the true face of those in power. But it's nothing new. Let's not forget that the Black Panther free breakfasts were considered a "national security threat." How insecure in your own ability to sell capitalism to people must you be, to go to such lengths? https://unicornriot.ninja/2026/then-they-came-for-the-anarchists-prairieland-defendants-sentenced-to-562-years/

RE: https://mastodon.social/@sci_burst/116509922024973056 This episode was fantastic and as soon as they came on to a certain topic, I just knew they'd reference @susankayequinn which was an absolute joy. Sci_Burst is probably my favourite podcast right now - the accessible language of sometimes complex subjects, the clear rapport of the co-hosts, and their warm conversational style just makes the interesting topics even better. And they're here on the Fediverse, how cool is tha...

Electricity-powered heat pumps - which draw air from outside of homes and transfer it into heating - are a key part of Europe’s aims to reduce its reliance on volatile, planet-heating gas. Studies show that this low-carbon technology is up to three times more efficient than gas boilers, and can halve households’ heating bills. This investigation by DeSmog and Politico found Paris-based PR firm Digital Tellers is linked to a web of connected Facebook groups and accounts spreading false claims abo...

Peter Mandelson - the man who proudly admitted that he woke up every day thinking of ways to undermine Jeremy Corbyn - is a part of the Blairite core of the Labour party that hand-picked Keir Starmer as an heir to Blair and purged leftists from the party. This "scandal" is what and who they are as a party, and Starmer's successor will be part of the Mandelson gang whether they portray themselves as that or not. Mandelson isn't just some scandal; he is Labour. An...

I have been so uneasy using Atlassian's Trello for quite a while now, and it's frustrating to be unable to find a good alternative that doesn't require self-hosting, that is as customisable and sleek, offers link previews, and is available for both Android and Linux (which Atlassian never bothered to develop a desktop application for anyway afaik). If you know of such a task list board manager, feel free to make me aware of it! #Trello #alternative #AskMastodon #AskFedi #...

I always liked that scene in Amelie where it describes one of the favourite things of a character (struggling writer Hipolito I think?) as witnessing bullfighters getting gored by bulls on television - I think I've just developed a similar weird enjoyment in watching robots trip and fall; I don't know why, it just gets me every time. (I don't tend to laugh at the misfortune of humans, so maybe this is my healthy alternative?!)

Speaking of @thepeoplestech, well, we've had lots of interest from potential service users, but are finding it tough to find people who'd like to be core UK members of the worker cooperative, functioning at an anti-"A.I.," anti-Covid intersection of privacy, security, sustainability, and inclusivity. Another shout-out to folks in the UK (or possibly elsewhere!) who are interested in helping to develop a slow, small tech co-op promoting tech use at the intersection of privacy, security, sustainability and inclusivity -- because it's time for the people to have control over their own tech, not governments and corporations. #cooperatives #permacomputing #MaskUp #TransRights #NoAI @jaybaker https://social.mediaactivist.com/@jaybaker/statuses/01KKCAGSNWT0E3RNBHBM4BXEDV
