This article, essentially a review of a review, has convinced me that I needn't make any effort to see the film. https://www.theguardian.com/film/2026/jul/27/odyssey-translator-emily-wilson-attacks-nolan-blockbuster

I must stop buying all of this sugary crap [he typed with chocolatey fingers after brushing the crumbs from his mouth and shirt and lap] and the only way for me to manage that is, I think, to give up caffeine. I buy the sugary crap when seeking out the (sugarless) caffeine... So here's the plan. Consume the caffeine that's already in the house, then switch to a daily caffeine pill to prevent withdrawal headaches. After a week or two, I'll decrease the dose. It's the only way. My...

My last (?) comment on today's AusAlert national awful noise day... The alert text basically says "This is where we'll be telling you about dreadful apocalyptic disasters that threaten your existence", and under that there's a button that says "OK". Major bushfire heading straight for you? OK. Terrorist outrage down the pub? OK. Imminent molecular destruction? OK. I think the button which clears away the warning should be rebadged from "OK" to &quot...

Tuesday. It definitely feels like a Tuesday. No commitments. No clear purpose. I could do my tax I guess, that'll soak up a solid five minutes.

Soup is underway. Currently trying to bring a vast stockpot to the boil. Incidentally, if you're one of those strange people with no understanding of bayleaves, boil one or two and inhale the scent. That's what bayleaves add to things.

There are things I should do today at home, and also a completely unimportant thing I could do elsewhere. I've always liked elsewhere, there's a strong chance I'll go there this morning.

Failing to spring into action this morning. I'll get to the shops later than usual, on a later bus, but it's school holidays so the later bus will be much more pleasant than usual.

Craving pastry. Not craving effort. Have any of you eaten Aldi spanakopita and lived to tell the tale?

Midnight. Awake, apparently, and quite anxious about something. My brain won't specify what exactly. This is not helpful.

I'll be off to the shops for critical materials (chocolate) just as soon as I've had a shower and decided what to wear and so forth. Also, there will be toast.

Going to the shops. Must not buy junk food. Must not buy junk food. Must not buy junk food...

Early morning. The first birds are outside, stumbling about and crashing into things in the dark. I am lying perfectly still. Suddenly, my left ankle makes grinding crunching noises. I wonder what that's about, other than a bid for attention. Skeletons are weird. Admittedly, exoskeletons are also weird.

Tuesday morning. Still feeling bloody awful, but improving slowly. Craving rice. Good thing I have half a dozen varieties in the pantry. Desperate to get out of the house but I think that'll be Thursday at the earliest. If this is dull to read, just think how I feel living it.

Today will be all about illness-based languishing, not my habitual apathy-based or ennui-based languishing. The techniques are similar, with illness-based languishing including a lot more resentment.

It's happened again. Healthy eating, good fresh salad etc, and now I feel bloody awful. This isn't funny any more.

SA Water are supposed to be making holes in the street over a 180-metre stretch of the street south of my place. Today they've actually closed the street about 100m north of me, and are up to something on the other side of the barrier. Further circumstantial evidence in support of my theory that they have no idea what they're doing. Think I'll go for a walk, away from them. I need a spring onion. Maybe even a whole bunch of spring onions if I am seized by extravagance.

Parrots have been at my pomegranates. A good indicator of ripeness. Harvest time.

The safety person at the construction site up the street is called Vishnu. Seems fitting.
