I really like this one: "The Big Bosses, ay, ay, even the Biggest, can make mistakes. Something nearly slipped, you say. I say, something has slipped." ~ J.R.R. Tolkien RT: https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/798230788838531077/entities/urn:activity:1917386110781931520

What’s funny to me is they tend to act like I’m just making this up when it was the consensus reality of most of our ancestors for nearly 2000 years RT: https://poa.st/objects/b5d8bc6d-ea6d-4349-8acd-eeab475b22f0

What’s funny to me about exchanges like this is when I’m told that I’m wrong about my own perspective 🤣 RT: https://shitposter.world/objects/db9ada95-44a4-4d82-8966-e6c4c229f44c

I just made a piece of 2x4 out of firewood 🎉 Using my two uncalibrated jointers (one configured to face-flatting, the other for 90° square) and my table saw (as calibrated from the factory a couple years or so ago), I was rapidly able to turn a random firewood wedge into a short but reasonable facsimile of dimensional lumber in about three minutes. It’s not exactly perfect, but it’s definitely nicer than most of the stuff I find in the cut-off bin at Home Depot or whatever. I use little pieces...

Noticed I should have included one with a cut endgrain visible; it’s not bad, at all. I’ve dealt with much worse from a big box bin. Nice, even, straight grain - and to think I’d have just chucked this in the stove without thinking twice about it 😩 RT: https://poa.st/objects/c01d6aa7-2184-4c08-a73c-31f82e168327

So I got the thing on there in position, more or less. I haven’t hooked the motor to the top support — which I plan to do because, though it’d probably work fine like this, I’d feel better with more attachment points for increased security. Earlier, I think I mentioned that, as sold, it came with a 5hp Tecumseh gas engine. This motor, being a 3hp electric, will probably outperform the higher-end 8hp model (as per the Rule-of-Three, anyway). It looks overpowered, like somebody stuck a much la...

Blessed Palm Sunday, everybody !! This afternoon, after the festivities in observance of The Lord’s Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem, I “finished” running a 240v electrical line out to the back porch - like I’d been meaning to do for over seven years and just never got around to it. “Finished” is in scare quotes because it’s a safe working pair of outlets without any aesthetic sensibility beyond the faceplates. I’m not entirely sure where exactly I want it - as I have a significantly longer l...

I see an awful lot of Saw•Stop table saws on YouTube videos; I’ve never used one. Last I checked (it’s been a while), their jobsite model was going for something like $895 - which is nearly 3x what I paid for this Skil, brand new. It’d be truly amazing if I could justify the higher price; but I only have “remember-not-to-touch-flesh/clothing-to-the-whirling-blade-of-doom” kind of money. So aside from the obvious fact of safety being the utmost priority in a table saw, I’d say mobility is my p...
